When you spend most of your day commuting, attending meetings, and meeting deadlines, you have little time in the mornings to fix a healthy breakfast let alone having hours to spend on your hair and makeup.  However, we all know that an unkempt image in the workplace has a direct effect on the way you are treated professionally.  So, with that in mind, here are some time saving beauty tips for the busy, modern woman:

Hide Root Re-Growth

hide root regrowth

Having a busy work life usually means you have little free time, so if you haven’t had time to book in at the hair salon and your roots are starting to show, try camouflaging the re-growth until such time.  First of all, tease your hair into a messy side parting rather than a parting straight down the middle. Then, apply some dry shampoo with a hint of color which is available for both dark and blonde hair.  This is also a great way of absorbing grease and hiding greys.

Multi-task Your Makeup

The thought of having to apply foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner, and then mascara before you leave for work may cause you to skip the makeup altogether.  However, you only need to use a couple of products to get the same effect. For example, you can apply a tinted moisturizer to give you a subtle glow with a hint of color rather than foundation.  Then, apply a line of eye liner to your eyelash curler before applying it to your eyelids for the perfect line and curls all at once.

Skip the Deodorant

Assuming you put aside time to have a shower at least, spraying deodorant to keep you smelling fresh isn’t always the best idea.  In fact, it has been suggested that using the same deodorant every day loses its effect over time because the body finds ways to adapt and unplug the ducts blocked by antiperspirants.  Instead, opt for a good quality perfume and apply it to the pulse points on your body such as your wrists, neck, or even inside your elbow if you want to smell great all day long. You can shop women’s perfume online and have it delivered to your door if you don’t have time to hit the shops.

Go for Gel Nail Polish

If your nails could do with a bit of TLC, you don’t always need the help of a professional; a splash of color is all you need.  Rather than opting for regular nail polish, choose a gel polish that can be cured under a UV lamp in as little as 30 seconds. They last much longer than normal polish and are a lot more hard-wearing.  If you don’t feel that color is appropriate for the workplace, you can choose a clear coat that will act as a nail strengthener and a base coat for when you do eventually want to apply a layer of color for those inevitable nights out after a hard week at work.

Having a hectic schedule doesn’t always mean you have to skip the beauty routine.  Try these tips and you’ll still look great without the need to wake up an hour early!

Wow yo! I remember walking by the Mac store on 125th street coming from school, amazed at all the dope campaign ads spread across floor to ceiling windows & on other major department stores. MAC Cosmetics really inspired me because they were one of the first mainstream companies to fearlessly and unapologetically embrace woman of color and the LGBTQ Community. That was big for me being a young black girl from Harlem telling myself that one day that would be me plastered in that window! Long story short, and by the grace of God, here I am with my own up and coming capsule collection for M•A•C!!!!! ?? On that note I’m proud to officially announce my collaboration & partnership with Mac cosmetics!!! I’m so grateful and excited to be sharing this beautiful collection I created with the MAC team and so happy the cat’s finally out the bag!! But most importantly, I’m hoping to inspire other young black women that anything and everything is possible & that our black is STUNNING!!! ? #MACteyanataylor coming July 2020!!!

We are so proud of Teyana Taylor! Just last week she revealed she is pregnant with her second child–which we already knew when her daugher Imani Shumpert, spilled the deets on her IG Live–and has a new project coming entitled, “The Album!”

We wonder if she will be getting her own line through the makeup giant, and if so what colors, shades, and mixes will be done that scream, “Teyana!” We will keep you posted as more on this story develops!

Hot? GQ’s (@GQMagazine) Showcases Men Wearing Make Up in It’s First Beauty Spread

For their November Issue, men’s magazine, GQ, decided to question the philosophy behind masculinity.

For years we have all been conditioned to associate certain things with only being for women and certain things only for men. Make up has solely been accepted as something that should only be used by women, however, recent years have seen that notion challenged. The editors at GQ decided to explore this with their men’s beauty portfolio, which showcased the history of men wearing make up. Those glam rock days of the 70’s, when rock stars carelessly flaunted faces filled with blush, eyeliner and lipstick are referenced in the spread where different men in the industry such as Luka Sabbat and eighties rock star, Billy Idol are flawlessly made up.

Looking at this spread I can’t help asking myself exactly when did makeup become just a girl thing? Anyone who’s taken history in school knows that makeup hasn’t always been for women. In ancient Egypt, men commonly used kohl eyeliner to exaggerate the shape of the eyes and eyebrows. This was to show wealth and status as well as to show their masculinity. Certain colors of eye-shadow was used to ward off illnesses and spirits.  In places like Ancient Rome and England, men used white powder to give the appearance of a fairer complections.  The first century saw men applying red pigment to their cheeks and even painting their fingernails.  Fast forwarding to the 1980’s when David Bowie and Boy George reigned supreme, it’s interesting to see how much men wearing make up had been socially accepted. The end of the eighties, however, saw men trading make up for a more understated social norm. Men were no longer taking those risks and the art form died with the trend. In the last couple of years, fashion houses such as Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana created cosmetics lines targeted specifically towards men.

GQ Men's Make Up

Could all of this be a precursor for a bigger movement? Will men wearing make up be completely normal 100 years from now? New trends pop up everyday, however, old habits die hard. Even though I myself personally, am not a make up person, I don’t mind a little concealer for those days when the circles under my eyes match my roots. It would be nice to look forward to a future of true gender neutrality, however, it’s hard to say whether or not men will learn to put their macho pride to the side long enough to embrace something new. Accepted or not, the conversation about masculinity needs to be had. A little eyeliner here or a little concealer there shouldn’t be what defines your “masculinity”. That word is a state of mind that can’t be wiped away with the stroke of a make up brush.
