Wow yo! I remember walking by the Mac store on 125th street coming from school, amazed at all the dope campaign ads spread across floor to ceiling windows & on other major department stores. MAC Cosmetics really inspired me because they were one of the first mainstream companies to fearlessly and unapologetically embrace woman of color and the LGBTQ Community. That was big for me being a young black girl from Harlem telling myself that one day that would be me plastered in that window! Long story short, and by the grace of God, here I am with my own up and coming capsule collection for M•A•C!!!!! ?? On that note I’m proud to officially announce my collaboration & partnership with Mac cosmetics!!! I’m so grateful and excited to be sharing this beautiful collection I created with the MAC team and so happy the cat’s finally out the bag!! But most importantly, I’m hoping to inspire other young black women that anything and everything is possible & that our black is STUNNING!!! ? #MACteyanataylor coming July 2020!!!

We are so proud of Teyana Taylor! Just last week she revealed she is pregnant with her second child–which we already knew when her daugher Imani Shumpert, spilled the deets on her IG Live–and has a new project coming entitled, “The Album!”

We wonder if she will be getting her own line through the makeup giant, and if so what colors, shades, and mixes will be done that scream, “Teyana!” We will keep you posted as more on this story develops!

Hot? GQ’s (@GQMagazine) Showcases Men Wearing Make Up in It’s First Beauty Spread

For their November Issue, men’s magazine, GQ, decided to question the philosophy behind masculinity.

For years we have all been conditioned to associate certain things with only being for women and certain things only for men. Make up has solely been accepted as something that should only be used by women, however, recent years have seen that notion challenged. The editors at GQ decided to explore this with their men’s beauty portfolio, which showcased the history of men wearing make up. Those glam rock days of the 70’s, when rock stars carelessly flaunted faces filled with blush, eyeliner and lipstick are referenced in the spread where different men in the industry such as Luka Sabbat and eighties rock star, Billy Idol are flawlessly made up.

Looking at this spread I can’t help asking myself exactly when did makeup become just a girl thing? Anyone who’s taken history in school knows that makeup hasn’t always been for women. In ancient Egypt, men commonly used kohl eyeliner to exaggerate the shape of the eyes and eyebrows. This was to show wealth and status as well as to show their masculinity. Certain colors of eye-shadow was used to ward off illnesses and spirits.  In places like Ancient Rome and England, men used white powder to give the appearance of a fairer complections.  The first century saw men applying red pigment to their cheeks and even painting their fingernails.  Fast forwarding to the 1980’s when David Bowie and Boy George reigned supreme, it’s interesting to see how much men wearing make up had been socially accepted. The end of the eighties, however, saw men trading make up for a more understated social norm. Men were no longer taking those risks and the art form died with the trend. In the last couple of years, fashion houses such as Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana created cosmetics lines targeted specifically towards men.

GQ Men's Make Up

Could all of this be a precursor for a bigger movement? Will men wearing make up be completely normal 100 years from now? New trends pop up everyday, however, old habits die hard. Even though I myself personally, am not a make up person, I don’t mind a little concealer for those days when the circles under my eyes match my roots. It would be nice to look forward to a future of true gender neutrality, however, it’s hard to say whether or not men will learn to put their macho pride to the side long enough to embrace something new. Accepted or not, the conversation about masculinity needs to be had. A little eyeliner here or a little concealer there shouldn’t be what defines your “masculinity”. That word is a state of mind that can’t be wiped away with the stroke of a make up brush.

Black and Brown Women everywhere are proving themselves to be innovators, trendsetters, and the creators of cool. Thus being the CEO of a multimillion dollar hair care empire falls right in line with the mantra, “Black Women can do it all!” Kontrol Magazine and HeyMikeyATL chopped it up with, Miko Branch, co-founder and CEO of the game changing hair care line, Miss Jessie’s!

When it comes to the creme de la creme of natural hair care products, Miss Jessie’s truly sets the bar. The secret behind this amazing line is none other than the sisterly bond between Miko, and her late sister, Tati. “She was such an amazing woman, and I miss her every who poured her heart into our company…we both wanted products that catered to people with all types of hair and curl patterns…[Miss Jessie’s] it’s the legacy of our sisterhood and I’m blessed to have it.” The Black hair care industry churns out billions of dollars each year; and as one of the premium companies at the forefront, Miss Jessie’s prides itself on a wide array of products. They have products that soften, repair, condition, moisturize, treat, and encourages hair growth. The trick and fun part is finding what combination of products works with your hair or curl pattern. “We truly have something for everyone no matter what kind of hair you have…we’ve taken into consideration that everything does not work for everyone, but none of our products will damage your hair. They work well, smell great, and get the job done!” Miko states.

As aforementioned, Miss Jessie’s has products for everyone, but our personal favorites include the Baby Buttercreme, Coily Custard, Sweetback Treatment, and Leave-In Condish. However, products primarily targeting men have been lacking. Data, beauty, and hair trends show that men are taking better care of their hair and want products to assist in its daily maintenance. Thankfully, the hair gods have heard our prayers and in 2020 we will see new additions to the Miss Jessie’s family as Miko reveals a forthcoming men’s hair care line! “2019 has been really good to us, and 2020 will be even better! In the next year you can expect to see new products from us, especially those geared towards men. We have heard a growing male customer base telling us they want products for their hair and beards so you can expect to see that very soon.” Men’s grooming and care is the new frontier for the hair and beauty industries. Beard oils, balms, and natural hair care products are all the rave and we are here for it!

Miss Jessie’s is here to stay and with Miko Branch at its helm we are more than certain it is here to stay. 2020 just cannot come fast enough. In the meantime you can catch your own Miss Jessie’s products at your local Wal-Mart, Target, and most local beauty supply stores. They are literally everywhere, with something for everyone! You can also catch them at the next Bronner Bros. Beauty Show on February 8-10, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia. “We are blessed to have so many people who believe in us and our products. There really is no such thing as bad or unmanageable hair. Our products work for you because we work for you, and it’s something I love getting to do everyday.”
