The Dior “saddle” bag made its debut almost twenty years ago when Dior’s creative director at the time, John Galliano, sent them down his spring 2001 runway.

The bag immediately began popping up on every hot young celebrity’s arm and most famously by the world’s favorite writer Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City.  Thanks to people like Paris Hilton, Beyonce, and Nicole Richie the bag was an instant success. Galliano had single handedly ushered in the era of the “It” bag. It’s unique shape guaranteed that it could nestle comfortably in the armpit and, at it’s peak, you could find it in an array of colors, prints, and fabrics.

Since becoming Dior’s creative director in 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri has revisited and recreated many of the things that made Dior a success in years past.  The archives of Christian Dior has been her best friend, however, she loves to reference Mr Galliano. Who can blame her? John Galliano was able to take a sleepy old fashion house like Christian Dior and make it cool again. For her fall 2018 collection, Chiuri decided it was time to resurrect an old friend.  As models strutted down the runway, fashion insiders were treated to the new age saddle bags.

How exciting, was all i could think as I began to recall the popularity of these bags from so long ago. As luck would have it, the new creative director for Dior’s men’s division, Kim Jones, gave the saddle bags a masculine edge when he presented his own versions for the men’s spring 19 collection.

Jones presented an array of different looks such as small coin purses as well as backpacks. I can’t wait to see these stunners in the street to see how people interpret the style. The shape will forever be timeless so there will always be a need for them.

Foot Locker Reports BOOMING Sales As People Spend Their Stimulus Checks!

Americans and their love affair with sneakers is evident as ever with the sneaker retail giant, “Foot Locker,” reports booming sales as people spend their federal stimulus checks. The company previewed its second quarter sales and found them to be much higher than expected.

Americans and their love affair with sneakers is evident as ever with the sneaker retail giant, “Foot Locker,” reports booming sales as people spend their federal stimulus checks. The company previewed its second quarter sales and found them to be much higher than expected.

For many Americans the stimulus checks offer greater income than the jobs they were fired from or laid off from due to COVID-19. This “surplus” is being spent at malls and with online retailer, hence Foot Locker’s financial “come up.”

Shares of Foot Locker gained more 7% on the news. And Nike shares were up 4%, helping the Dow surge almost 300 points.

Foot Locker will release its second quarter sales on August 21st, showing an eighteen percent surge in stores opened for at least a year. Economic analysts initially expected a drop of about twenty percent in sales due to COVID-19.

Sales were so strong because of “pent-up demand and the effect of fiscal stimulus,” Foot Locker chairman and CEO Richard Johnson said in a news release Monday.
“While these undoubtedly remain challenging times, we are nonetheless pleased by the health of our category,” Johnson added, saying that sales were strong for both physical stores in malls and online.
We are not surprised to hear Foot Locker has “booming” sales. On our own recent trips to the mall as they reopened, shoe retail stores have been constantly busy. Some people, however, feel it shows that the stimulus checks are not being used as they were meant to for essentials like food, mortgage/rent, child care, etc. As you may already know Congress recently decreased the $600 weekly unemployment checks to $400, feeling it is time most Americans return to work, despite soaring numbers of coronavirus cases in most states.

Beyonce’s “Black Is King” is a Fashion Smash!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know all about Beyonce’s new visual album, Black Is King, which is meant to be the yin to The Lion King album’s yang!

As much as I love and adore Queen B, my old bones didn’t allow me to stay awake til 3 am to watch the premiere, however, I was able to catch it the next day which is all that matters, so don’t judge.  Now when you love fashion as much as I do you’ll often get lost in the wardrobe so bad that they will haunt your dreams at night. Black Is King was no exception as it was chocked full of amazing fashions that seduced and satisfied my craving for beauty. Whether it was big designers like Balmain and Mugler or the local African designers like 5:31 Jerome, she kept it sexy and classy. That being said, I had to list some of my favorite looks.

Greek designer Mary Katrantzou has never shied away from a good print.  Ever since her debut collection in 2008, fashion lovers like Anna Dello Russo have all fallen head over heels for her merchandise. Beyonce’s stylist Zerina Akers scored her this amazing number from Katrantzou’s fall 2019 collection.

Since his days at Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci has adored Beyonce. Now that he has taken his talents to Burberry, it was no surprise that Beyonce’s visual album would feature a few Burberry looks such as this one.

Anyone who knows me knows I love me some Balmain. To my delight Beyonce donned this look from the spring 2020 collection.

This image teased us for weeks as the world waited for the day of the premiere.  This Valentino Haute Couture creation was made especially for her by Valentino’s designer Pierpaolo Piccioli.  I loooove leopard so the fact that not only are the guys covered in it, but the car is as well. That was enough for me.

The name Loza Maleombho may not be familiar to most of you, however, that all may change after Beyonce wore this piece in Black Is King. 

One thing Beyonce has always been great at has been her innate ability to captivate her audience. Be it her powerful voice, her dance moves( which are always on point ), or her great style she always make sure everyone is talking about it for years to come.
