Some actors are associated with certain iconic roles no matter how long ago they were (nearly thirty years to be exact). This is definitely the case with Michael Keaton, who portrayed Bruce Wayne/Batman in “Batman” (1989) and “Batman Returns” (1992). His association with these two films is highly regarded for bringing the portrayal of Batman back to his original darker, gritty roots.

Now, Michael Keaton has been tapped once again to don the cap and cowl of Batman, reprising his role in the upcoming “Flash” standalone film.

Here, Keaton will take on the role of a much more dangerous Batman–a “Flashpoint Batman”–born from an alternate timeline  (dubbed “The Flashpoint” in the comics) where The Flash alters his past and never becomes a superhero. Consequently the world at large is darker, more dangerous, and embroiled in war.

Fanart of Michael Keaton as “Flashpoint” Batman

Batman in this world is Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father, who witnesses his son being killed in front of him during a mugging gone awry. Thomas becomes Batman–albeit a drunk who is far more violent and willing to kill his enemies. Just as surprising is that his wife and Bruce’s mother, Martha Wayne, is driven insane and becomes this world’s Joker!

The plot of this upcoming Flash film will seemingly expand The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and introduce audiences to a multiverse. This is not the first time DC Comics have played with the concept of a multiverse. As you may recall, in December of last year and January of this year they aired the major crossover television event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” on The CW which declared, outside the Arrowverse, every live action DC Comics based, live action series or movie was a universe to itself connecting past and present series like Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Black Lightning, Stargirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Lucifer, Birds of Prey, The Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Batman (the campy sixties series), and many more!

We are excited for Michael Keaton to be Flashpoint Batman. It is very fitting and only coming on the heels of the character’s increasing prominence in the comics where surprisingly he has become not only an enemy of his son, but The Batman Family at large.

We will keep you posted as more about this story develops. Welcome back Michael!

Word is that there are two very different actors are being considered to play the leader of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards. One is John Krasinski, the other is John David Washington.

John David Washington is the star of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood. He’s also the son of Denzel Washington. According to this rumor the 35-year-old is now one of the top contenders for the role of Reed.

We’ve heard rumors for awhile now that former Office star turned horror movie (A Quiet Place) director John Krasinski could be up for the part of Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in Marvel’s new version of the Fantastic Four. Until now those have just been wild rumors, but we’ve just gotten something a little more concrete.

Roger Wardell tweeted this oddly overlooked message a few days ago…

If you don’t know who Wardell is, he’s a Marvel Insider with a proven track record of getting scoops like these right. So it’s pretty likely that if he says Krasinski is up for a part at Marvel, then he’s up for the part. That said, he doesn’t specify WHICH part Krasinski is up for. But where there’s smoke there’s fire. We’ve been hearing Krasinski for Mr. Fantastic for months now and it’s really hard to imagine Marvel wanting to cast him as the lead in any other superhero movie. He’s uniquely qualified to be Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie.

We are honestly okay with either actor acquiring the role. We can, however, see John David Washington becoming it more in light of Jonathan Majors being cast as Kang The Conqueror in the Ant-Man 3 movie. Kang, in the comics, is actually a distance ancestor of Reed Richards.

Jonathan is an amazing actor, having risen to fame via films like Last Black Man in San Francisco, the television miniseries, When We Rise, and most recently the aforementioned Lovecraft starring alongside Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Courtney B. Vance, and Michael K. Williams. In “Ant-Man 3,” he will star opposite Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, who will reprise their roles of Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/Wasp.

The film is set to take place shortly after the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame and is rumored to introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU. Stories are alleging they have been trapped in the Quantum Universe in a city controlled by Kang and will be unwittingly freed by Ant-Man and Wasp.

It is rumored that Marvel Studios is opting to kill T’Challa off and move forward with his younger, brainy sister, Shuri played by Letitia Wright, as the new Black Panther and Queen of Wakanda.

Shuri becoming the new Black Panther is not far-fetched at all. In fact, in the comics Shuri is currently the Queen of Wakanda as T’Challa abducated the throne to rule over the city of Necropolis and she has in the past ruled in his stead when he was incapacitated.

shuri as black panther

Shuri, unlike her older brother who is more of a hand to hand combatant, prefers to use advanced technology as well to assist her in her role as a sovereign and superhero. Shuri also is not the first woman to take over a title traditionally held by a male superhero. Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster, temporarily became the new Thor, Riri took on the role of Iron Man until she settled on Ironheart, Speedy and Robin’s sidekick roles have been filled by women before, and Green Arrow’s daughter–in multiple universes–has succeeded him to become the Emerald Archer.

Shuri becoming the new Black Panther also follows a motif of female led movies and television shows. Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman’s success in the box office proves there is a major market for female superhero movies. There are so few roles of this kind with a Black woman in the lead and it is much needed. The MCU can definitely use a bigger dose of Black Girl Magic! Now if they can just deliver Storm to us somehow..

What do you all think of Shuri becoming the new Black Panther? Will you be watching? Sound off in the comments’ section below.
