From 2004 through 2015 gay marriage has been made legal in all fifty states. We’ve had artist from Elton John to Frank Ocean come out and ask the world to accept them. But for some odd reason in 2019, “we” have a problem accepting Lil Nas X and I want to know why.

Montero Lamar Hill aka “Lil Nas X” is from Lithia Springs, Georgia and has completely set the world on fire in 2019. All I could remember when he first came out as an artist was that he was a black man singing country, and how everyone was so in an uproar. Then as the summer came and went I had learned how he had surpassed Mariah Carey’s longest running number one in billboard history “One Sweet Day” and he’s only 20! But instead of congratulating him we have some who believe he used his sexuality to boost his popularity. We all have our opinions but that is utterly ridiculous.

Lil Nas X – “Panini”

To think that LGBT members are some of the ones pushing that narrative is confusing. How can Rihanna use her sexuality to her advantage but we have a problem when a gay/bi person does it? It’s who we are! Instead of us making assumptions how about we just be thankful that a gay/bi  person can come out and it not stop their bag. Why is it that us gays want to be accepted but we tear down our own thinking it will validate us. We have to start supporting one another and keep the “shade” to a minimum.  Not too long ago the LGBT community wasn’t even accepted but we mad now when our brothers and sisters come out? We have to pick a side.  So what if he wears fringes, vibrant colors, or gets his nails done. Stop trying to change this man.

Lil Nas X feat. Billy Rae Cyrus – “Old Town Road”

I don’t remember anyone saying negative things about what Prince and Michael Jackson wore. We all love Miley Cyrus but she’s no stranger to nudity. We were surfboarding with Beyonce and no one seemed to care. My whole point is everyone is different and should be accepted for their work and not for anything else. Lil Nas is super talented, don’t get caught sleeping.

Back and forth the ladies delivered hit after hit and bop after bop; which had many Generation X-ers and Millennials reconnecting with their childhood. From Brandy we heard hits like “What About Us?,” “Brokenhearted (the Wanye duet),” “Sittin’ On Top Of The World,” and more. Meanwhile Monica came just as heard with classics like “So Gone,” “4 U I Will,” “Everything To Me,” “First Night,” and more.

Naturally, the ladies dabbled in fun shade; reminiscing on the alleged slap down Monica gave Brandy in their youth, and their aforementioned off-screen heart to heart to clear the air. They apparently had not spoken to each other for eight years.  Nevertheless, their honesty and ability to forgive one another was endearing and an excellent example of how two people in a longstanding feud can heal one another.

Honestly, their Verzuz Battle left us wanting a joint album from them. Brandy and Monica are magic together, and this is the closest match up in the history of the Instagram Live series. To us, there was no clear winner.

The positive commentary and feedback from thousands of celebrities and influencers; and over a million fans shows we definitely need R&B to make a comeback. The singers we have grown to know and love are good for more than just features and hooks. Brandy and Monica PLEASE go on tour! We will definitely buy tickets!
