Mary Jane begins the episode with a peace offering as she tries to make up with her niece. They end up in a deep conversation about her unborn daughter. Neicey reveals she got pregnant on purpose, and does not feel beautiful, but her daughter will be because she will be half-Filipino. She agrees to stay the night with Neicey. They go through her baby gifts and watch her young son together. The next morning, Neicey says she has a dream about her daughter and jokes about naming her “Dontaesha.” Helen asks MJ for a ride to her doctor’s appointment just before Patrick arrives to tell her. He gives her a “Life Alert” necklace to make her feel safe. She harshly admonishes for him, while MJ and PJ laugh at him.
Later, MJ arrives at work to find out Terrance has committed suicide. MJ confronts the woman responsible for revealing Terrance as a fraud. She defends her position and fires back about his culpable dealings. Later the heads of SNC meet with her to try and figure out to deal with a pending lawsuit from Terrance’s family who blame her and the network for his death. MJ is ordered to remain silent about all matter concerning him, believing the hype around his death will blow over in a week.
Kara informs MJ they are pulling her show and replacing it with Mark’s until the backlash over Terrance’s death subsides. MJ is furious when she realizes she will be the only one not working since Kara will still be working, but on Mark’s show. At the Pattersons’ house, MJ becomes even more depressed when her name is dragged through the mud during a televised debate. She realizes the public sees her as an opportunist. She seeks wisdom from her father, asking why he would not talk with her about Terrance initially. Paul Sr., tells her at the end of the day all that matters is what she thinks, it is her life. PJ jokes with his mother about the necklace. She admonishes him for poking fun at her and tells him how sick she really is. He tries to get her to use marijuana medicinally. Surprisingly He manages to convince her to take it edible in bran muffins. She agrees, but tells him it has to stay between them.
MJ receives a posthumous letter from Terrance, inspiring her to press forward. She later looks on as Mark does his show. she is happy with the changes. At her home, Terrance’s death finally hits her. She finds comfort in her maid who sings to her to comfort her. Patrick calls MJ to inform her Neicey is having her baby early. At the Pattersons’, Neicey refuses to leave until her daughter’s father comes. Helen snaps her to her senses, forcing her to realize he will not be there for her. Kara and her ex-husband finally reconnect when he reveals he often used her job as a scapegoat to vent about their marital issues. He also lets her know it does not make her a bad mother if she wants him to take the boys full time. PJ and Patrick confront Dante about his delinquency, revealing everything to his mother as well. She tells him he must go the hospital to see the birth of his daughter. At the hospital, Helen gets the munchies, unwittingly revealing her marijuana use to her daughter.
MJ reveals to her father why she changed her name, to not tarnish The Patterson name. Lisa wheels Neicey in with her new baby in tow. She names her Isabel and looks on as Dante holds her for the first time. The family takes turn holding the baby. Later, in bed, MJ reveals to Lisa she feels bad being at the center of Terrance’s death. She also tells her about David has called to check in on her and thanks Lisa for taking care of her niece and grandniece. Helen and Deja play around with her Life Alert necklace to send PJ and Patrick running. She and Deja playfully scoot down the stairs to dinner.
MJ’s show returns to the air. After interviewing a filmmaker, she goes off script and apologizes for part in Terrance’s death. She expresses her guilt and admonishes society for its indifference towards the prison system and its victims. Kara praises her for her courage, so does the staff. Later, David stops by to check on her and ask her a question. He inquires about her stealing his sperm.
