A Moving Film & Amazing Night, TV One’s (@tvonetv) “Bad Dad Rehab” is Nothing Short of Powerful!

When it comes to “made for TV movies” often times they are cheesy, horribly filmed, and rarely worthwhile. Just think off all the predictable Lifetime movies we  have grown up watching with the same themes, recurring actors, and villain archetypes. Well TVOne  is definitely breaking the mold in its latest film for television, Bad Dad Rehab! Starring Robert Ri’Chard, Wesley Jonathan, Rob Riley, and Rick Gonzalez, the film entails the lives of four “Deadbeat Dads;” each of whom take a parenting class, “Bad Dad Rehab,” to learn how to reconnect with their children and be better fathers, partners, and co-parents.

Led by their group facilitator Mr. Leon (Malik Yoba), each of their stories is moving as they struggle to balance what they want to do, need to do, and face their own “daddy issues.” This is easily a film that every man, especially fathers–good and bad–need to see.  The film does have a lot of lighthearted moments, and superbly integrating entertainment and informing the audience to social issues at the same time. There are a lot of fatherless children in our society and for many of them it is because their fathers are absentee. These are not always the stereotypical dead beat dads we hear so much about, but are instead men who do not know their legal rights as fathers.

Travi$ Scott (@trvisxx) Dropping New Album In A Week?

Looks like G.O.O.D Music affiliate/Grand Hustle Artist Travi$ Scott is going to be putting in his bid for King of the Summer 16′ as well. After coming off the success of his debut album “Rodeo” and an even more successful tour with his alleged homie, lover, friend Rihanna, Scott is ready to release his sophomore album sooner than we thought.

Fans have been on the balls of their feet anticipating another album from the Houston-native. Well, this past weekend at one of his concerts, Scott revealed some news for those still waiting. “My album is coming out in a week, right?” he said. “So I’m gonna play a couple of joints on there.”

The album he may be speaking of is his long-promised “Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight” album. Most fans are excited about the album but not surprised about the short notice. Scott has never been the one to follow the rules of album/single releasing. Just a few week back, the rebellious rapper tweeted out that his fans were going to “eat in a big way,” and the results of that was the single “Pick Up The Phone” featuring Young Thug and Quavo.

Still no word if Travi$ is still planning to release his rumored third album “Astroworld” on the heels of “Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight” this year. Either way, it will be a big and very competitive summer for hip-hop.

[VIDEO] Throwback Thursday: Training Day

I am sure that if I turned your TV on to this week’s throwback, most of you could recite a few of Denzel Washington’s lines in it. You have probably guessed it – this week we are reminiscing on the early 2000’s film, Training Day.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, this film had a pretty solid cast, including Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Eva Mendes, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Cliff Curtis and more. The film was about a Los Angeles Police Department narcotics officer “training” a rookie on his first day, and taking him through the inner-city busting drug dealers. However, it doesn’t take too long before we realize Detective Alonzo Harris, played by Denzel, is not quite who we think he is.

[VIDEO] Damon Dash (@DashDamon) Speaks Out on Ex-Wife, Rachel Roy (@Rachel_Roy), Jay-Z (@S_C_), & “Lemonade!”

Just when you thought the drama surrounding “Becky with the good hair” from Beyonce’s now infamous Lemonade album had died down, Damon Dash throw in his two cents. As you may recall, the woman believed by most to be Becky–the woman Jay-Z allegedly had an affair with–Rachel Roy is his ex-wife. After Rachel was (rightfully) stung by thousands of the members of The BeyHive, the ferocious fans turned their attention towards she and Damon’s young daughters. Naturally, he was not having it!

In an interview with Access Hollywood Live, the music mogul weighed in on he feels about this fiasco.

The only issue I had was them putting pressure on my children…” Dame told Access Hollywood Live“For me it’s the history between me and Jay, me being his partner at the time in Roc-A-Fella and Rocawear and all that and best friend … of course, on a human level, it would bother me.”

We definitely agree with Damon about his children. They are off limits! Rachel was foolish to insert herself in this drama, and should have considered how this would affect her family. As we all know, Bey has never actually named who Becky is. Let’s hope the BeyHive pays attention and backs off those little girls.

An Act Of Inclusion? The Oscars Add People Of Color To Its Voting Body

This year’s Oscars were highly controversial, and not just because of Chris Rock. As you recall, the organization received major backlash for its lack of racial diversity in choosing nominees for its awards. For the second year in a row almost everyone was overwhelmingly white and male. The Oscars has promised to fix its issues of diversity, and it looks like they are now actively making their first steps towards inclusion.

Just yesterday the Oscars released information that they have added 683 members to their voting body; and nearly half of them are minorities. 46% of the new group are female and 41% of the new group consists of people of color. This means combined with the existing members that is merely  a 2-3% uptick in minority representation.

via TMZ:

Notable names on the list include Idris Elba, Vivica A. Fox, Morris Chestnut, Michael B. Jordan, Nia Long, Gabrielle Union, and Marlon and Damon Wayans. ‘Star Wars’ newcomer John Boyega is the youngest at 24 added to the list. O’Shea Jackson also made the cut … interesting since the “Straight Outta Compton” snub ignited the controversy.

The Academy says the new class reps “the best in our global film community.” It also added this: “We encourage the larger creative community to open its doors wider, and create opportunities for anyone interested in working in this incredible and storied industry.”

We can lightly applaud the Oscars efforts, but we wonder will it really change anything about how the organization operates, or if actors and films of color will receive the same chances as their Caucasian counterparts. Time will tell.

Drew Barrymore (@DrewBarrymore) Slated to Get New Talk Show!

Congratulations are just about in order for actress Drew Barrymore who is slated to be getting her own television show in the nearby future.

The “Charlie’s Angels” star is reportedly in talks about being at the helm of her own talk show in a joint venture deal with Warner Bros. and Ellen DeGeneres‘ A Very Good Production company.

However, sources close to Drew tell Variety that nothing is yet set in stone.

Meanwhile, Drew Barrymore recently split from her husband Will Kopelman with whom she shares two children. In a recent interview she said:

“I’m doing my best. I’m going back to work for the first time in a while to do this Netflix show. I’m not supposed to give away details about the roll, but I’m excited. It’s going to be fun… And then we’re just doing a lot with Flower beauty, doing more international, we’re in two or three new territories and growing. And our Rosé comes out this spring, and we’re selling out. It’s gone. I’m so excited about that. Next year is going to be really exciting.”

When asked what makes her happy, she shared:

“Just strength. Now that I’m a mom, and I know that it harkens back to the girls, aside from that, it really is girl power, badass. It is strength, clarity, conviction, health and focus …

“It’s funny, because there are times in my life that I am so loosey-goosey, so hedonistic, and it is so just ‘hippy-dippy,’ but right now I feel this great backbone is, ‘One foot in front of the other,’ which is sort of my attitude right now. That is anything but loosey-goosey – that if you don’t stay in a straight line, you are going to get into trouble.”

What would you name a Drew Barrymore hosted talk show? Daytime with Drew?
