Howard is coming home!
Dwight Howard, previously a part of the Houston Rockets, is no longer a Rocket or a free agent. Howard has signed with the Atlanta Hawks! It has been reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical that the agreement is set for the next three years of Dwight’s career, and also worth $70.5 million.
According to ESPN, Dwight’s meeting with the Hawks was the first meeting of his free agency period. A source tells them, “It was a really, really, really good meeting.” This must be true since Dwight was set to speak to other teams by Friday and explore his options, including the Boston Celtics who also showed interest in him, yet he has signed a deal with Atlanta that ESPN says is “totally guaranteed with no option.”
The Atlanta Hawks do still have Al Horford as an unrestricted free agent. With Howard and Horford both being starting centers, we can assume Horford will not be playing for the Hawks in the 2016-2017 season.
Dwight began his basketball career in 2004 with the Orlando Magic, where he played for almost ten years! He then played for the Los Angeles Lakers for their 2012-2013 season, and then headed to the Houston Rockets, where he has played for the last four years.
