Lights Out (Movie Review)

We had the pleasure of going to see an early screening of the supernatural horror movie, Lights Out, directed by David F. Sandberg in his major directorial debut, written by Eric Heisserer, and produced by Lawrence Grey, Heisserer, and James Wan.


The overview of this film is about the sick and mysterious relationship between Diana, the supernatural entity and Sophia, the mentally ill mother in the movie who’s played by Maria Bello. When Sophia’s son, Martin (Gabriel Bateman) begins to experience unexplained and terrifying interactions every time the lights went out, he’s forced to call on his big sister, Rebecca, (Teresa Palmer) for help. Having left home, Rebecca thought that she put all her childhood fears behind her but they soon resurface after realizing what haunted her as a young girl growing up, is now putting her family’s life in jeopardy. Now forced to return home to save her brother, Rebecca is determined to end the family bond with Diana for good. When the attachment is threatened to be broken, Diana returns with a vengeance to torment the entire family.


If you’re looking for suspense and dysfunction, this movie is for you. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie 100% and other critics said its a 9/10. The film had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 8, 2016. It is scheduled to be released next Friday, July 22, 2016 through Warner Bros. Pictures.
