Last week it was announced that funny man, Jay Pharoah would not be returning for the next season of Saturday Night Live. Jay Pharaoh had been on the late night comedy sketch show for 6 seasons and was coming to the end of his 7-year contract with the show. The comedian made his mark on the popular late night show with his impressions of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Denzel Washington, and President Barack Obama just to name a few.
Although the news of Jay Pharoah’s split with Saturday Night Live is rather fresh, Pharoah already has a new gig. Recently, the executives of Showtime announced that Pharoah will be starring in a new comedy series on their network. According to the executives, they had been in negotiations with Pharoah and fellow Saturday Night Live co-star, Taran Killam for months. Killam will not be returning to the Saturday Night Live next season as well; both Pharoah and Killam have been offered shows with the Showtime Network.
According to David Nevins, President, and CEO of Showtime Networks,
“We were prepared to work around their SNL schedules. Knowing they were going into their final year.”
Pharoah’s new comedy series will be called White Famous and it is being executive produced by comedian/singer Jamie Foxx. The show will be centered on a young African-American comedian named Floyd Mooney who will be played by Pharoah. Pharoah’s character will struggle with maintaining his creditability as his career begins to cross-over demographics as he becomes “white famous”.Tim Story from the “Barbershop” movie franchise will executive produce the show along with Jamie Foxx. Story is also set to direct the show’s pilot episode. The show will be written by Kapinos, who has also written for Californication. The show is based off an idea of Jamie Foxx who will also have a reoccurring role.
Wow, Jay Pharaoh joining forces with Jamie Foxx is bound to make one hilarious show. Will you be watching?
