Happy Monday Lovelies!
It’s time for another Monday #CelebrityCrush and today’s heartthrob doesn’t need any grand introductions. He has undeniable talent on the football field and just a simple flash of the pearly whites can make any woman swoon and go crazy but over the weekend, we saw this man take a stand (or seat) for something he strongly believed in… And a man who speaks out on injustice regardless of the backlash he may receive, is even sexier that his outer appearance. Colin Kaepernick, you’ve got our hearts this week.
28-year old Colin Kaepernick was adopted by a Caucasian couple and raised in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin until age four when he and his family moved to Turlock, California where he completed grade school.
Kaepernick began playing youth football at age eight as a defensive end and punter. He then became his youth team’s starting quarterback at age nine, and he completed his first competitive pass for a long touchdown. By the time he reached high school, he was a three-sport star who passed up a promising baseball career as a pitcher in order to play football.
Today, Colin Kaepernick is known as a 2nd round Draft Pick for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2011 NFL draft. Kaepernick began his pro career as the 49ers’ backup to starter player Alex Smith. In the middle of the 2012 season, Kaepernick filled in for an injured Smith and became the full-time starter as the 49ers advanced to the playoffs for the second straight season. He set an NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a game (playoffs or regular season) in his first playoff game. After beating the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship by 28-24, he led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl since ’94 where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
Over the weekend, Kaepernick has been in the headlines not neccessrily for his athleticisim but for his decision to remain seated during the National Anthem. When asked why he did not stand, Colin replied:
“I’ll continue to sit. … I’m going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me, this is something that has to change, and when there’s significant change — and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way it’s supposed to — I’ll stand.”
Kaepernick said it took time for him to decide how to express himself, but he’s comfortable with his tack — even if it costs him endorsements or his roster spot — as he attempts to shine yet another light on police brutality, specifically, and race relations.
Colin received an onslaught of backlash and numerous racial slurs were thrown his way for his decision to remain seated. We stand with Colin for his choice and we applaud him!
And while we’re at it, take a moment and oogle at Colin’s physique.
