When mentioning Teyana Taylor, the word “slayage” should always be in the same sentence.
Body on fleek? Check!
Dance moves unmatched? Check!
Melanin popping? Check!
A multi-talented singer, rapper, actress and dancer? That’s Teyana Taylor alright.
Just yesterday, the “Maybe” singer dropped a brand-new video of herself freestyle rapping over Kanye West’s latest single, “Champions,” while wearing nothing more than some creatively placed gold foil body paint. In the clip, Taylor wears a ski mask, and a flaunts a pair of golden pistols.
After joining Travis Scott on the hook for the first “Cruel Winter” single, Teyana Taylor opens up her freestyle with a menacing patois, spitting, “First lady go cray for ’em/ So I loaded up the AK for ’em.” Later she boasts in a throaty sing-song wail, “Anna Wintour need a chair to see how they stare with the bangs and hair for me/ It’s like they ain’t care for me.”
The video is unlike any other in the respect that it is a series of photographs by Sasha Samsonova that have been put together for a stop-motion effect, according to media outlet High Snobiety.
In case you don’t remember, Teyana Taylor signed to Kanye West’s “G.O.O.D. Music” record label back in 2012 so it makes sense that the multi-faceted artist chose one of her mentor’s songs to perform to.
We’re still in awe over her appearance in Kanye’s “Fade” video that made almost all of us want to eat, sleep, and breathe the gym. That post-baby snap back was real!
Hopefully, Teyana keeps this momentum going and releases another album. One before the end of the year would be dope! I’ve always been a fan of Teyana’s, not just for her music and dancing but for her swag. There is absolutely no one with a swag like hers.
Teyana Taylor is definitely one of the most underrated artists of today. I’m glad folks are finally starting to recognize the Harlem princess.
