#ThrowbackThursday: #RIP The Best of Shawty Lo (@THATSSHAWTYLO)!

Yesterday we reported the devastating news of Atlanta rapper Carlos Walker, known as Shawty Lo, passing away Wednesday morning in a car accident. Today, we want to honor Shawty Lo by remember 5 of his best hits!

Shawty Lo meant a lot not only to his friends and family, but to the whole city of Atlanta! He was responsible for putting out many Atlanta “anthems,” as all of his songs made crowds all over the city hype. The rapper originally started by forming a rap group called ‘D4L’ in 2003, which you may remember by their hit song “Laffy Taffy.” With D4L, Shawty Lo also created his own label ‘D4L Entertainment.’

It was in 2007 that Shawty Lo came out with his first solo single which may have just been his best one of all time, ‘Dey Know!’ His solo career was a success; and although Shawty Lo’s music may not have been as popular in mainstream music, his features and remixes certainly were. Shawty Lo was highly respected by his city, as well as other rappers in the game.

Many celebrities spoke out in regards to the tragedy via social media.

Future, Migos, Yo Gotti, DJ Drama, Talib Kweli and more tweeted their condolences via Twitter.

The ‘King of Atlanta’, T.I. dedicated a post to the late rapper along with a heartfelt caption stating, “

troubleman31 Damn!!! I just woke up to some Bullshit News…RIP to a true Westside Atlanta Legend!!!!! You truly represented Bankhead to the fullest!!! My Heart goes out to his family, and his children as well. Even through our toughest times I must admit I was impressed,& kinda proud of how well you rep’d our hood, and how much you cared for it. It was a real relief to have someone else helping to lift Bankhead up & hold it there. Can’t say enough about how much you meant to the city. Glad we matured beyond our trivial personal differences in time enough to have a laugh about it as neighbors. For those of us who were around & “in the mix” in the mid-late 90’s,we know the “Legend of Lo” started waaaay before Music. We salute U G!!!! Rest easy,You’ll truly be missed.  #RIPShawtyLo #TrueAtlantaLegend” with a photo of the two of them.

Gucci Mane posted a photo of an old XXL Magazine cover with Atlanta rappers on it, including himself and Shawty Lo, with the caption “laflare1017 Damn it man #RipShawtyLo

Atlanta’s own Ludacris also posted a photo of the two of them and saying, “ludacris  R.I.P. To a real one. #gonetoosoon #shawtylo #love

Shawty Lo died at age 40 and was survived by 11 kids. Our condolences are with all of his family.
