It Went Down! The First 2016 Presidential Debate: Who Has Your Vote?

Talking about politics is not my strong suit and I usually stay away from it. This coming election has made me change my mind. Having Donald Trump as a candidate choice makes it extremely hard for me to keep my thoughts and opinions to myself. Last night, I decided to watch the first presidential debate of 2016 and it didn’t make me want to change my vote.

Last night the two candidates duked it out in a one on one debate that was moderated by NBC’s Nightly News anchor, Lester Holt. The debate was held live in Hampstead, New York, and the candidates were asked to speak on America’s economy, race issues, and why they would make the best choice for president. It didn’t take long for the debate to turn heated. Donald Trump tried to display a more calm and presidential like persona, but it didn’t take long for him to start showing his true colors. Donald Trump spent most of the debate attacking Clinton, avoiding answering the questions, trying to pass off his opinions as facts, and repeatedly interrupting angrily and dismissively.

During the discussion of race issues in America, Trump’s response was for “Law & Order” to be brought back into neighborhoods. Trump also wanted to bring back the “Stop & Frisk” program even though he was told repeatedly that it was deemed illegal because it encouraged racial profiling.

Clinton brought up Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns.

“Maybe he is not as rich as he says he is,” Clinton said. “Maybe he is not as charitable as he claims to be… Maybe he doesn’t want the American people to know that he has paid nothing in federal taxes.” “There is something he is hiding.”

Trump responded by saying he would release his tax records when Clinton released her emails.

It was clear throughout the debate that Clinton was well prepared while it appeared that Trump was not. Trump basically relied on insults to get him through the night. Trump made comments towards Clinton’s age saying that she has been fighting Isis her “entire adult life”. Trump also stated that cyber attackers were probably 400-pound people sitting in bed. Lastly, Trump stated that he had more stamina and a better temperament than Clinton to be president. Maybe it’s just me but I didn’t feel like Trump actually answered any questions of the night.  The next debate is scheduled for October 9th. Will you be watching?

So, what are your thoughts? Who do you think won debate last night? Do you feel like the candidates answered the questions are gave vague answers? Let me know in the comments.
