It seems like celebrity couples are splitting up left and right nowadays. A few months ago, R&B singer Mary J. Blige threw in the towel and announced that she would be divorcing her husband/manager, Martin “Kendu” Issacs. At first, it appeared that the couple’s divorce was going along smoothly, but now it appears that the “No Drama” singer is about to get just that. Martin has petitioned the court for temporary spousal support. He wants to maintain the lifestyle that he has grown accustomed to during his 12 years of marriage to Mary.
Now, that Martin is no longer Mary’s manager he claims that he won’t be able to maintain his lifestyle without Mary’s support. Martin is asking for $129,319 a month in spousal support. The former manager claims that since he is no longer working with Mary, he has no money being generated. Martin feels that Mary shouldn’t have any problems paying that amount due to some upcoming business deals. According to Martin, Mary has a “King and Queen of Hearts Tour” and another album coming up. The couple did agree to a prenup before saying “I do”, and Martin admits to signing it.
Although Martin signed the prenup, he doesn’t feel that it is valid because he signed it without a lawyer. Martin has already received money from Mary in the amount of $85,000, and he believes he received this money due to alleged faulty prenup. While out promoting her new single “Thick of It”, Mary had this to say about her pending divorce,
“If you know me, you know what I’m dealing with right now. ‘The Thick of it’ is the divorce and all this stuff that’s going on right now. It’s the heaviness of it and the whole thing…That’s where I am. I’m in the middle of a divorce and it doesn’t feel good. It feels terrible, but I have strength to get through and I get through by any means necessary.”
So, what are your thoughts? Do you think Mary’s soon to be ex-husband deserves spousal support? Do you think he should be awarded the entire amount? Let me know in the comments.
