Stories like this one literally warms one’s heart.
This past Tuesday, New Orleans Saints Linebacker and 2015 first round draft pick Stephone Anthony teamed up with local School Bus and Transportation Company, Hammond’s Transportation to kick off its School Bus Safety Tour. From October 17th through October 21st it is recognized across the country as “National School Bus Safety Week”, and Hammond’s is pulling out the stops to create as much awareness to decrease accidents that affect children catching the school bus each day.
This Tuesday, Stephone stopped by Kipp Central City Primary located at 2625 Thalia St. for a surprise appearance to get the kids excited about safety. The tour touches on very important topics such as, “The Danger Zone”, school bus etiquette, and how to cross the street. The topics addressed during the tour are often overlooked, but are extremely important to ensure the safety of children riding the school bus.
“It is imperative that we equip our kids with the tool necessary to keep them safe on the way to and from school. We are excited about partnering with Stephone to be the face of defending our children as we kick off this new program”, says Mark Hammond, CEO of Hammond’s Transportation.
The tour is one of many community outreach initiatives the company will continue to implement each year.
The number of school related bus accidents has risen over the last three years so it is both imperative and great that programs such as this exist to help kids know what to do in the event of one. I applaud Stephone Anthony for his effort. Partnering up with Hammond Transportation is definitely a good look!
