Really? Vanessa Hudgens (@VanessaHudgens) Called Out for Cultural Appropriation AGAIN!

Vanessa Hudgens, best known for her role in the popular Disney movie, High School Musical, is being ridiculed on social media for a pic she posted last night. The Grease star snapped a picture of her in box braids, a hairstyle created and mostly worn by black woman, Sunday on her SnapChat. Giving her the benefit of the doubt here, we’re going to assume she was coming from a good place and her what seems to look like a lacefront wig of braids was out of innocent fun.

However not everyone is giving the actress a pass. Fans on Twitter quickly went in on her various pictures and are charging her with cultural appropriation.

Even a few fans went a step further by saying that this isn’t the first time the singer has posted pictures in poor taste and consider Vanessa Hudgens as a repeat offender of cultural appropriation.

The receipts don’t lie and by the looks of it, many do have a point in considering Hudgens a habitual violator. To clarify, cultural appropriation is the adoption or use of elements of one culture by members of another culture. This is not to say that she can’t rock the braids or any style for that matter. It’s all about presentation and in the manner of how you’re going about it. The best way to eliminate coming across offensive is to acknowledge the other culture while simultaneously appreciating it. Vanessa didn’t do that.

Nonetheless, there were fans coming to her aid, demanding that the public should cut the star some slack and insinuating that her acts are harmless.

We, at HeyMikeyATL, will keep our personal opinions to ourselves on the matter but that doesn’t mean our readers have to. What do you think? Is it all in innocent fun or is Vanessa Hudgens crossing the line yet again? Let us know in the comments below.
