We simply love us some Kandi Burruss and all she’s done in the Entertainment industry but what we don’t love is what’s been circulating on the Internet. According to several media outlets, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss is accused of gypping a former employee of hers by refusing to pay him minimum wage or overtime — despite him working for the reality star for years and even going as far as putting her wedding with Todd Tucker together. Now, he has filed a suit against her demanding the court order her to pay him the money he is owed.
According to TheJasmineBrand.com, the former employee’s name is Johnnie Winston III and he has filed suit against Kandi Burruss and her company “Kandi Koated Entertainment”. He explains that he began working as the reality star’s manager, event planner and production coordinator in 2013 until his termination in February 2016.
Winston accuses Kandi of failing to pay the required state minimum wage and overtime wages for time spent working in the recording studio, planning special events, running errands and preparing meals for special events and attending meetings.
He says he was terminated in April 2015, but rehired in May 2015. However, throughout his employment he accuses Kandi of failing to pay overtime pay or the required minimum wage. Winston filed suit for a declaratory judgement stating Kandi Burruss-Tucker violated The Fair Labor Standards Act, the entire pay and overtime he is owed, along with liquidated damages in an additional amount equal to back pay and benefits along with his attorney fees and interest.
Kandi, we are keeping our fingers crossed that this isn’t true and that this man is just looking for an even larger payday but if by chance, his story pans out – simply pay the man his money. We’re sure he more than worked for it and he is owed that much.
