Written by Ryan Jaffe, Melting Potts centers on a blended family made up of equal parts Indian, Muslim, Jewish, and New Jersey. It is about a newly married couple struggling against culture, tradition and generations to build their idea of a “normal” American family.
Kerry Washington‘s production company Simpson Street will produce the new show with backing from ABC Studios where the company is based. This marks the second network sale for Simpson Street in the company’s first development season since entering an overall deal with ABC Studios in April (*in our Martin voice* You go girl!) Kerry Washington and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett are also set to executive produce the ABC drama project “Patrol” – an upcoming series about four female Los Angeles Police Department officers, which is written by Chitra Elizabeth Sampath.
Simpson Street’s first project, which preceded the ABC Studios deal, was the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas HBO movie ‘Confirmation’, which the company produced with ABC Signature as well as Groundswell Productions and HBO Films. The movie earned Washington two Emmy nominations, for best TV movie in her role as an executive producer and for her starring turn as Hill.
There is no word yet on if Kerry Washington will star in the new series or if she will make a few cameos or when the pilot is scheduled to air. However, we’re always down to check out a new show when it airs so we’ll most definitely be tuning in for it.
But in other Kerry Washington news, the Shonda Rhimes created hit show “Scandal” in which Kerry plays Olivia Pope is on it’s way back to television. According to Entertainment Weekly, Scandal will return to primetime television on Jan. 19, 2017.
This will mark its sixth season of twists and turns when Olivia Pope & Associates return to cover up scandals or find themselves in new political dirt. Now who’s ready for that one?
