Marvel Studios (unsurprisingly) has another hit on its hands with its latest superhero film, Doctor Strange! The film tells the origin of the titular superhero and his rise to power. Initially a famous and gifted neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a also conceited and arrogant, preferring to showboat with his skills rather than actually help people. In a twist of fate (and driving while texting) he gets into a serious car accident and damages his hands, losing his ability to practice.
Stephen, desperate to heal his hands and practice again, tries obscure and experimental surgeries to restore his abilities to no avail. He soon finds himself pointed in the direction of a place in Nepal that can help him with what he desires, but when he arrives there finds it to be nothing he expected. His faith in everything he knows to be true is shaken thanks to a display of power from The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), Sorcerer Supreme and protector of Earth’s dimension from mystic threats. Strange soon learns these threats include a former pupil of The Ancient One who seeks to become immortal and sacrifice Earth to Dormammu, The all-powerful Lord of The Dark Dimension! Strange must master the mystic arts and look beyond himself to save the world as we know it!
Doctor Strange has to be the most well written Marvel movie to date, and is predicted to break box office records! It is easily the most well written Marvel movie. Unless you are an avid comic book reader, most people do not really know Doctor Strange’s origins or the source of his powers. They assume he is just another mystic hero. Honestly they are only partly right, he is THE mystic superhero. The film’s development of the Ancient One, Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and Dormammu was amazing as well. No character is completely black or white in this film and each leaves you with something profound to think about. We are totally psyched with the film’s connection to Avengers: Infinity War and cannot wait to see Doctor Strange alongside the Avengers taking on Thanos! Be sure you stay all the way through the credits for two amazing post credit scenes!
