“Blackish” star Laurence Fishburne has been keeping himself quite busy these days. Not only is the actor starring in a hit TV sitcom on ABC but he also has several projects in the works. Fishburne’s long list of upcoming projects will keep his fans standing in line at the box office. It appears that Laurence will star in several film projects in the upcoming year; one of which will be starring opposite of Jennifer Lawrence in “Passengers”. Laurence will also star opposite Keanu Reeves in “John Wick 2” and is in post-production of “Madiba” a film where he portrays Nelson Mandela.
Fishburne’s Latest Project
Fishburne’s latest project is a crime thriller called “Ruby In Murdertown”. In this project, Fishburne plays a father who is framed for murder in a Midwest town that is full of crime. His daughter decides to hop in her 1977 Chevy Caprice and take matters into her own hands. She quickly realizes that she will have to clear her father’s name because the police have very little interest in finding the real murderer.
The film will be the first for director Leah Rachel who also wrote the script for the indie project. Production of the film will begin next year. Fishburne will produce the film along with Helen Sugland and JP Sarni. Sugland is a partner of Cinema Gypsy and heads development for the company.
Fishburne’s new film will also star newcomer Royalty Hightower. Royalty will play Fishburne’s daughter in the film. Royalty is an 11-year old who started getting noticed in the acting world after appearing in the Sundance film, “The Fits”. Hightower’s performance in the film earned her a nomination for a Gotham Award in the Breakthrough Actor category. Hightower will also appear in the upcoming independent film “And Then I Go” which will star Justin Long, Melanie Lynskey, and Carrie Preston.
