Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation is home to many artists such as Rihanna, Big Sean, J.Cole, Grimes, and himself. The latest artist to join the Roc Nation family is Young Paris. Paris is also known as Milandou Badila. He is a Congolese-French born artist who also has roots in New York. This artist sound has been described as a mixture of hip-hop, electronic dance, trap, and African drumbeats.
“My sound comes from my cultural background I am Congolese, I grew up in Paris by way of Congo and my father co-founded national ballet in Congo so I grew up with a strong traditional influence. Just growing up in the neighborhood and living in New York, hip-hop culture was my dynamic and I just also love going to parties and listening to EDM. So I just thought I could mix these different vibrations into what I thought I could display my sound to be and that’s pretty much what you hear.”
Paris is not just an artist. He also has a good sense of fashion. He tends to mix streetwear with tribal prints and face paint that has become his signature style. Paris also is the owner and founder of Melanin which is a website and social media initiative that embraces black culture.
The Congolese artist recently dropped a visual for his single “One Time”. In the visual, Paris teamed up with Nigerian artist Reekado Banks. Reekado is signed with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. The single “One Time” is also featured on Young Paris EP called, “African Vogue”. Paris’ EP is set to be released and in stores on December 9th.
