Kontrol Exclusive (@kontrolmag): Get to Know the Young Starlet w/ a Master Plan– Grace Kaufman (@ImGraceKaufman)!

Fourteen-year-old Grace Kaufman is light years’ ahead of her time. Since the time she landed her first acting gig when she was just seven years old, Grace Kaufman has a number of performances under her belt from performing in theater and musical productions of “Annie” and “The Wizard of Oz”, Grace has shown that there’s more to her than what meets the eye. The young singer and actress has proven time and time again that she is a definite force to be reckoned with in the entertainment area.

“I have always had a strong passion for acting ever since I can remember.” Grace begins to reminisce a bit. “When I was little, I loved acting out movies and making up skits to perform in front of friends and family. Both of my parents are actors as well, so I guess you could say it runs in the family!”

With her first Tribeca Film Festival debut, Grace captivated audiences in the independent film “Sister” – where her undeniable acting chops flourished on screen with her emotional performance.

Grace seemingly lit up when talking about the emotions she goes through as she transforms into different characters.

“I love how acting enables me to learn so many new things and experience the feelings and thoughts of others. Getting to be somebody else and see the world through their eyes. I love leaving myself behind while I am doing a scene and escaping into a whole new person’s world. It’s a thrilling feeling. It is also such an honor to get to work with so many other talented actors and actresses who inspire me to follow my dreams.”

Further evidence of Kaufman’s many talents is her recurring Disney and Nick Jr. roles.

“I’ve done a lot of animated work for Disney. On “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”, I play Melody, who is one of Minnie’s nieces and I’ve also done several cameos on other Disney animated shows and that’s always fun.”

Fans can also hear her belt out tunes as the fun, bright, crazy and opinionated “Deema” on the hit animated Nick Jr. series “Bubble Guppies.” The show helps preschoolers laugh and learn through an interactive 3D CGI underwater world where kids take in science, math, literacy, and more without even realizing they’re learning. Bubble Guppies incorporates original music showcasing the characters performing original pop, rock, country, and hip-hop music.

“Voiceover is lots of fun because it’s mostly animation and you get to laugh and have fun. And work in your pajamas if you want to! Getting to play Deema on Bubble Guppies has been such an incredible experience. It is so cool to do both “sides” of the show, speaking and singing. I record all my speaking lines for an episode, and then I go to another recording studio at another time and sing all of the songs my character sings in the episode. It takes about a week to get it all done, but it is so worth it!”

Kaufman goes on to weigh in her opinion on what an educational children’s show would look like if she was in charge.

“I think it would be fun to do a show for kids about traveling. I love to travel, and I would tell them all the cool places for kids that are in different cities and countries. And talk about the history and culture of those cities and countries as well. I would watch a show like that!”

Man with a Plan

Grace Kaufman stars alongside Matt LeBlanc in the new CBS show “Man with a Plan”

Grace Kaufam isn’t just a Disney kid, she’s spreading her wings to new avenues and this much is evident with her more recent work, CBS’ new comedy series Man with a Plan, where she’ll be starring alongside Matt LeBlanc. Kaufman is set to play the role of Kate. The show centers on a contractor (LeBlanc), who finds out parenting is harder than he thought after his wife goes back to work and he’s left at home to take care of the kids.

“Man With a Plan” is filmed in front of a live audience and a comedy obviously. It’s almost like doing a little play every week because we rehearse for several days before we do the show in front of the audience. We all see each other every day and it’s very much like a family. “The Last Ship” is a single-camera drama, so I’m only there when I’m filming my scenes. But the storylines are very emotional and intense, and I love doing that kind of work.”

Kaufman also portrays Eric Dane’s daughter in the futurist action adventure series “The Last Ship.”

“I love working with both Eric Dane (The Last Ship) and Matt LeBlanc (Man With a Plan). They’re both really great guys and are fun to work with. My mom loves to come to work with me because she says I have the cutest dads in show business.” (No offense to my real dad! Hahaha. Who is the best!)

Even with a hectic onscreen schedule and a booming career, this driven young lady still has schoolwork to take care of at the end of the day.

“It’s not easy, for sure. But I am very dedicated to school and education. I take it very seriously and always want to get good grades. I don’t homeschool because I love going to a regular school whenever I am able to, on my hiatuses and any days that I’m not called into work. My friends are there, and I love the social life of a regular school. That’s why I work very hard to keep my grades up so my school sees that I’m serious about it.”

Kaufman, who is still in her prime making huge moves on TV and Film has this to say to other kids who want to be actors one day like her:

“Do plays at school, take acting classes, look for plays being done in your city or town. And watch great movies and the performances in those movies. I love to learn from other actors.”

Grace Kaufman embodies the true essence of a superstar in the making with having a full resume under her belt at such a young age. Working with some of Hollywood’s most elite actors and having Disney on her side, Kaufman is sure to be the next big superstar. So what motivates this young star on the rise do you ask?

“Love and support from my family is the main thing. As long as I know they are behind me, I feel like I can do anything. I just take things a day at a time and hope that I’ll continue to work and that people will appreciate what I do!”
