Okay, it’s fair to say that America as we know it no longer exists. The next four years will be an interesting journey for this country and there are a lot of people worried about where that journey will lead us. The time leading up to the great election basically split America in half and racial tensions grew high. Unfortunately,  no one knows of an immediate remedy to cure racism in America. Well, that is unless you’re Lee Daniels.

Director Lee DanielsSome think we need to have continuous panel discussions where we try to understand each other. While others think we should deal with it head on and have no tolerance. Well, director Lee Daniels thinks watching more “white” lead characters on television will make all the world’s problems disappear. Daniels recently told the women of “The Real” that his lead character of his new Fox drama, “Star”, is white because he felt “the country needed to heal”.

Hmm, I’m not sure what healing powers a lead white character on a primetime show possesses, but I’m sure Daniels has some rationale behind this. Right?

Daniels told the women of “The Real”,

“I thought that it was important to address race relations in America. We are, truly I believe, in a civil war. And I think that when we understand that we’re all one that [we will] then understand America. And America is still to be understood by us.”

Daniels’ new show, “Star”, which airs December 14th, will follow the careers and lives of three women trying to make a name for themselves in the music business. One of the women in the musical trio is…yep, you guessed it… she is white.

Daniels went on to say,

“I think that this white girl is so fabulous that black people will embrace her, and white people will embrace her.”

Daniels also mentioned that his career has been so successful because he refuses to embrace racism.

“If I embraced it, it then became real. And if it became real, then I would be an angry black man.”

Hmm, that was interesting! (said while rolling eyes)… You can check out the video of the interview below.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you think the great white hype will be able to heal the race relations in America? Let me know in the comments.
