A new four-part documentary series is headed to HBO. “The Defiant Ones” will focus on the lives and uncommon partnership between Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Both Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are well-known music legends who have collaborated with many artists throughout their careers. The series was directed by Allen Hughes and written by Hughes, Lasse Jarvi, and Doug Pray.
The series was filmed over a three-year time span and will feature interviews with music artist such as Bono, David Geffen, Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen and Will.I.AM. The anticipated documentary will also feature never before seen footage from writing sessions with U2, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, N.W.A., Stevie Nicks, JJ Fad, and Eazy-E.
HBO Praises New Docu-Series
The film will be a Silverback 5150 Pictures Production with Alcon Television Group. Executive producers on the film include Hughes, Pray, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Jerry Longarzo, Michael Lombardo and Gene Kirkwood. “The Defiant Ones” won’t debut until 2017 on HBO but the series is already receiving praise. According to Casey Bloys, HBO Programming President,
“The Defiant Ones has everything you expect in a great story-drama and humor, tragedy and triumph. Allen Hughes takes you on a journey through some of the most important flash points of popular culture, and I’m delighted that we can bring this unforgettable saga to our viewers.”
HBO describes “The Defiant Ones” as
“An unquestionably bold film about the unlikely but ultimately unbreakable bond of trust and friendship between two street-smart men from different worlds who have shaped many of the most exciting and extreme moments in recent pop culture.”
