For three seasons Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World won hearts with nostalgia and heartwarming life lessons. Centering on Riley (Rowan Blanchard), the daughter of Boy Meets World’s Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), the series is both critically acclaimed and wildly popular!
Which is why it comes as a shock to us that Disney Channel has cancelled Girl Meets World!
The series finale will air later this month in an episode title “Girl Meets Goodbye” where the Matthews Family has to make tough, life altering decision. Fans are not happy with Disney Channel’s decision and honestly neither are we. The writers and director of the series tweeted fans thanking them for supporting the show, while reports are coming in that Rowan is crying about the cancellation. She took to Instagram with this post:
Personally, we really loved this show. Not only did we get reacquainted with the old cast, in particular Cory, Topanga, and Shawn (Rider Strong); but we got to meet some pretty amazing young actors in Rowan, Sabrina Carpenter (Maya Hart), Peyton Meyer (Lucas Friar), Farkle Minkus (Cory Fogelmanis), and Amir Mitchell-Townes (Isaiah “Zay” Babineaux).
There is still a chance the show can be revived, however. Rumors have been buzzing for months now that the show might move to ABC’s Freeform so the show could grapple more mature issues. Then there’s always Netflix! Fuller House, another updated show from the nineties hit series Full House, is doing great there along with an updated Gilmore Girls. We really hope someone picks up. This is a quality show, and with all the nonsense and ignorance in the world that tells girls they are less nothing, this show empowered them. It made it okay for a girl and her friends to just be kids, grow up, and learn some pretty amazing lessons along the way. Way to go Disney Channel, you really dropped the ball on this one!
