We are only five days into the new year and there is already a controversy that is dividing Hollywood. I mentioned before how gospel singer Kim Burrell delivered an anti-gay sermon to her congregation last week. Well, since then Hollywood has decided to choose sides. Some celebrities have been very outspoken and have stated that they do not agree with what Kim Burrell preached about. Other celebrities have decided to support Kim and her beliefs. The latest celebrity to join in support with Kim is gospel giant and pastor Shirley Caesar.

Pastor Shirley Caesar’s Views

Pastor Shirley recently felt the need to add her two cents to the controversy and it appears that she is one percent on Kim’s side. Caesar recently spoke to the congregation of First Baptist Church of Glenarden about Kim’s anti-gay rant and stated that Kim should have spoken about this years ago.

“You [Kim Burrell] should’ve said something 4 years ago when our President made that stuff alright!”

Pastor Shirley is referring to how same-sex marriage was made legal under President Barack Obama’s administration. Shirley also goes on to say that if pastors want to speak on things they should collect phones at the door in order to keep everything “in house”. According to Shirley, everyone has made mistakes and she is learning to process her thoughts before she speaks because “once it’s out there, it’s out there”.

Pastor Shirley CaesarKim Burrell is still on a downward spiral. After the delivery of her sermon, Kim’s appearances started being canceled and people began to distance themselves from her. The latest brand to part ways with Kim is Texas Southern University. Kim’s radio show “Bridging the Gap with Kim Burrell” has been dropped from the universities programming lineup. According to a statement from TSU,

“The Kim Burrell show is no longer airing as part of KTSU Radio programming”.

There has been no official word as to why the university decided to drop Kim’s radio show, but it probably has something to with the gospel singer still not releasing any form of apology.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you agree with Pastor Shirley? Should Kim serve up an apology? Let me know in the comments.
