We at Kontrol Magazine love movies–action, romance, horror, sci-fi–you name it! However, there are very few films we would say you HAVE to see and Hidden Figures is definitely one of them!

Hidden Figures is based on a true untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), who are three incredibly intelligent and talented African American women who managed to land jobs at NASA back in the 1960’s when they were often discriminated against for both their race and gender.

Katherine, Dorothy and Mary end up being the brains behind what would be one of the biggest operations in history and a monumental moment for NASA, which was the launch of astronaut John Glenn into the orbit. This was an incredible achievement not only for NASA, who at the time was still getting established, but also for the entire nation who gained confidence in itself and the federal agency. These three women broke every barrier that was up against them and helped make history!

‘The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.’

All too often we are told the very basics of Black History and the contributions of people of color to this country and the world at large. This film only proves how that history and those contributions are a significant part of human history and therefore should be taught in American History alongside The Founding Fathers, D-Day, any other significant event in our nation’s history. We were more than proud–astonished and amazed–is more like it by Katherine, Dorothy, and Mary. God bless them and this movie! They are “Hidden” no more! Catch Hidden Figures in a theater near you nationwide today!
