When you think of the name Jalen Rose, what are some titles that comes to mind? Former professional NBA baller, current sports analyst with ESPN, and philanthropist are all titles that crossed my mind but according to Variety.com, Jalen is getting ready to add another notch to his professional belt.
Anna Maria Horsford and Marla Gibbs have signed on to play Jalen Rose’s mother and grandmother, respectively, in Rose’s single camera comedy “Jalen vs. Everybody.”
The half-hour show is said to follow Rose as he juggles his career responsibilities with the challenges of being a single dad. The project hails from the team behind ABC’s hit series “Fresh Off the Boat.” Nahnatchka Khan wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, and Mandy Summers. Aside from starring, Rose will also serve as a producer. Khan’s Fierce Baby banner is producing in association with 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios.
If picked up by the network, Jalen vs. Everybody will be in good company with several other series. ABC’s other comedy pilots in the running to be picked up are “Start Up” which will star Zach Braff; “Libby & Malcolm” said to be starring Kenya Barris and Felicity Huffman; “Raised by Wolves” from Greg Berlanti and Diablo Cody; a series about a city mayor from “Hamilton” star Daveed Diggs and female buddy cop sitcom called “The Trustee” from exec producer Elizabeth Banks.
I don’t know yet how I feel about Jalen Rose as an actor but Anna Maria Horsford and Marla Gibbs teaming up for a sitcom defintely has me open and here for it! What about you guys?
