What is currently trending at #1 on the internet? Warner Bros/DC’s official movie trailer for the upcoming Justice League movie!
Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman are banding together to face off against an otherworldly attack. Yes, you were probably expecting Superman to be among their ranks, but do not forget he was “killed” in last year’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice after helping to defeat Doomsday.
The trailer has been met with rave reviews, with many fans feeling Warner Bros. may have finally gotten things right with their budding DC Cinematic Universe. Still, unless you are a true fanboy/fangirl there are a few things you may not recognize or have known from the trailer. Well, rest assured we have your backs and are going to educate you in a little comic “geekdom!”
The “Death” of Superman
As we mentioned Superman was seemingly killed in his battle with Doomsday, but avid comic book readers know he was only injured so badly he fell into a coma and his vitals could not be detected by conventional Earth technology. Thus, eventually The Man of Steel will return to life. This is confirmed by the appearance of Amy Adams as “Lois Lane,” and from the angle she is looking up at she may be seeing a bird or plane–or Superman!
Every major has minions and the biggest baddie in all of DC Comics’ history, Darkseid, literally has millions of them in the form of his army of Parademons. Parademons are overall mindless drone soldiers whose sole purpose is to serve Darkseid and generally overwhelm most of his enemies with their ferocity, strength, deadliness, and sheer numbers! We got a brief look at them in Batman vs. Superman when Bruce Wayne had a vision of them attacking soldiers in a dystopian future where he was at war with Superman. In the trailer we see clips of Flash, Batman, Cyborg, and Aquaman.
Cyborg and Mother Boxes
Most of you know Cyborg thanks to Cartoon Network’s original Teen Titans animated series, but in recent years he has become a much more prominent superhero thanks to him joining the Justice League. In some stories he is a founding member alongside the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Flash, and Shazam. In the comics, he was horribly injured in a lab accident and his father was forced to graft advanced technology to his body in order to save him. However, in the movies this advanced technology will come from a Mother Box, a living computer from Darkseid’s domain of Apokolips. Thanks to the Mother Box, Cyborg has a myriad of powers a few of which include superhuman strength, flight, a sonic white noise blaster, technopathy, and portal generation. The Mother Boxes will play a key role in the film as the Justice League must find three of them located around the planet to stop an invasion from Apokolips.
Lois Lane may be the most popular “superhero’s love interest” in comic book history, but she certainly is not powerful or really dangerous. Those titles can definitely be attributed to Aquaman’s wife, however, Mera, the Queen of Atlantis, gifted with the ability to not only breathe and live underwater, but manipulate it as well. The Justice League. movie marks her first cinematic debut. She was the redhead floating underwater we briefly glimpsed. You can learn more about Mera by clicking here.
The Trident of Neptune
People have often laughed at and underestimated Aquaman due to his aquatic powers, but that definitely needs to stop in 2017. Clearly, Aquaman is now one of the Justice League’s bad asses and besides his many powers, he wields one of the most powerful weapons on Earth–The Trident of Neptune. As the name hints at this powerful weapon was once owned by the god of the seas himself, and grants its wielder tremendous power and the right to rule the ocean. The weapon is virtually indestructible and because it is magical even Superman is vulnerable to it.

The Trident beholds a vast number of magical powers such as the power to command the sea (making tidal waves or whirlpools or even making columns of water to stand on), control the weather (summoning rain or storms or creating rainbows), unleash blasts of lightning, transform living creatures into other forms, and it can also make things disappear.
