Supermodel, wife, and philanthropist Hanne Gaby Odiele broke down many doors since starting her modeling career in 2005.
After a scout discovered the then 17 year old at a rock festival in her hometown of Kortrijk, Belgium, Hanne Gaby Odiele was signed to Supreme models where she was whisked around the world making appearances on notable runways such as Marc by Marc Jacobs and Alberta Ferretti. In 2006, Odiele suffered a setback when she was hit by a car that had run a red light, which resulted in both of her legs being broken. After recuperating she picked up her career where it left off, using those legs to walk the runways of Chanel and Prada just to name a couple.
As famous as she has become for her high profile modeling career, its her off duty life that fascinates many the most. A favorite of some of the most famous fashion bloggers, Hanne Gaby Odiele is regularly featured for her uncanny sense of style. With years in the fashion game, I guess she would have to be living under a rock not to learn something when it comes to styling. Her style is never lost on the fashion world as past years have seen her filming videos for vogue.com where they follow her vintage shopping or watch her play dress-up in her own closet.
In 2017, Odiele managed to inspire more than she ever would have thought. Fresh off the heels of her wedding to longtime boyfriend John Swiatek, Hanne Gaby Odiele revealed to USA Today that she was born intersex, which is a rare condition when the individual is born with male and female characteristics. In Odiele’s case, she was born female, however has internal testes and no uterus. Being that she is the most high profile person to come out as having this condition, Odiele opened the eyes of many to the plethera of surgeries that go along with having this condition. Many of these surgeries are not always done with the parents’ consent. Thanks to her help, there are countries that have banded together and deemed “normalization” surgeries a violation of human rights.
