When one thinks of writer Shonda Rhimes, black excellence, amazing story lines, and creative genius all comes to mind.
Being the mind behind such successful series such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Scandal” grants you that level of prestige and power. Like any new series of Shonda’s, fans and newbies alike expect a certain level of pizzazz and her last Shondaland program may’ve missed the mark. The show was met with mixed reviews; some fans absolutely loved it while others felt it fell short of greatness. And according to the Nielsen ratings, they’re not wrong.
The latest show to be added to Shonda’s roster is “Still Star-Crossed”, an American period drama based on the book with the same name by Melinda Taub. Still Star-Crossed takes a closer look at those closest to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. At their wedding, Juliet’s cousin Rosaline Capulet and Romeo’s cousin Benvolio Montague are present. They don’t approve of the marriage, but they know there’s nothing they can do to stop them.
According to Nielsen data, the drama drew in a mere 0.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers, airing at 10 p.m. The struggling ratings may have been caused by it being debuted on Memorial Day.
Still Star-Crossed is considered a Summer show which may or may not be another reason viewers just weren’t feeling it. It’s a period drama; if that’s simply not your taste then just say that but I don’t think people should make excuses about why they just couldn’t get into the show. Check out the show trailer below and let us know if you’d be down to add this to your Summer Watch List or not!
