Disney has scored some major hits over the last few years with its live action take and twists on its classic tales. Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty & The Beast were all well-received; and the company has announced its plans to create films out of Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Winnie The Pooh, The Lion King, and Aladdin! Honestly out of all the live action films we are anticipating it is Aladdin we are most excited out. It seems like a no-brainer that this should be the next film in line to become live action, and the rumor mill is turning that casting is already taking place.
We have no confirmed names for any roles, but word on the street is that Quantico’s star, Priyanka Chopra, is in talks with Disney to take on the role of Princess Jasmine in the upcoming live action Aladdin film!
We have to admit this is awesome casting on the film’s part if Priyanka really does land the role. She is actually an Indian woman and when you see a realistic drawing of Princess Jasmine (as seen below) you know she can really pull it off!
A lot of films in recent years have been blasted for not being true to their source content, especially in films where Caucasian actors are cast over Black or Asian actors in traditionally African or Asian stories. Priyanka’s casting would shut that down and do the role some serious justice as we all know she is an amazing actress.
Besides if you grew up watching the cartoon of Aladdin after the film you know Jasmine became a bad ass fighter as well, traveling alongside Aladdin all over the world taking down evil sorcerers, criminals, monsters, and even witches. Priyanka’s character on Quantico, “Alex Parrish” is also a bad ass so she should be able to play the beautiful princess who can kick your butt if you get out of line! C’mon Disney drop whatever money you have to get this beautiful woman on board!
