[VIDEO] Artist Spotlight: Ari Lennox (@AriLennox)- Backseat

This week’s music highlight is Washington, D.C. native and Dreamville/Interscope signee, Ari Lennox, who recently released her highly anticipated EP, PHO.  Let’s just say we’re in love with her sound and her visual for her single Backseat! You can catch the video below. Being the only female vocalist, Lennox might feel she has a lot to prove but after listening to her EP, you’ll soon notice, she has plenty to offer.

“Sometimes women are put in this box where we’re only supposed to talk about certain things,” the 25-year-old singer-songwriter explains. “I want to be braver and riskier. I think people want to hear that kind of honesty and frankness.”

Lennox draws inspiration from some of the greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Minnie Riperton and Whitney Houston. Like those she admire, Lennox describes her own voice as “vulnerable and soulful; imperfect but pretty” and we couldn’t agree with her more.

The up and coming artist really shows her vocal skills on the lead single “Backseat” featuring label mate, Cozz. Between her sultry pitches with his explicit lyrics, it paints a picture for all those yearning for a sound strictly for the grown and sexy. She is contemplating something that is nontraditional for most women, taking the initiative to get exactly what she wants, and we at Hey Mikey ATL are not mad at that. Did we forget to mention that we love her look specifically her natural locs!

Jay-Z (@S_C_) Ready To Spill Some Tea–We Mean Lemonade– Too?

After presumably being dragged through the mud by his wife and BeyHive General, Beyoncé, on her highly praised Lemonade” project, Jay-Z is looking to spill a little D’USSÉ of his own. The Jigga-man may be getting ready to shed his own light on to the speculations of his unfaithful ways during his relationship with the hottest chick in the game wearing his chain.

A close source to the couple told US Weekly that the 46-year-old mogul is ready to share his own tea on the situation. “Jay is working on an album telling his side of things,” the source says.

Jay Z and sister-in-law Solange Knowles had an altercation at a Met Gala after-party May 5 that was caught on tape. It all went down in an elevator where the 27-year-old sister of Beyonce can be seen clawing and kicking at her brother-in-law as the "Halo" singer looks on. It's unclear what caused the argument as there is no sound on the black and white surveillance video, shot after the group attended a soiree at the Boom Boom Room at New York's Standard Hotel. Legend has it that the infamous elevator show-down between Hov and Solange, Beyoncé’s sister, back in 2014 at the Met Gala was due to him being extra flirty with designer and Dame Dash’s former fling Rachel Roy, conspiring what is now “Lemonade”.

Although Matthew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father, says the emotions of the album aren’t necessarily personal, but relatable, it looks like Jay and Bey aren’t going to miss out on this primetime-series drama money that has been building out of the speculations. What do you think Jay-Z will call the project? I’m sticking with D’USSÉ (you heard it here first). Stay tuned for more developments.
