Batman and Robin, Captain America and Bucky, Green Arrow and Speedy–these are just a few of comics’ greatest Dynamic Duos. Each of these pairings have the power, bond, and means to overcome just about any obstacle, but can they maintain a romance simultaneously? That’s where Marvel Comics’ Ant-Man & The Wasp come into place! These pint-sized heroes have finally made their paired debut on the Big Screen with lots of laugh, loves, and even BIGGER action!

When we last saw Scott Lang, aka the second “Ant-Man,” he was in Captain America: Civil War, where he was recruited by Captain America to fight off Iron Man and a few other heroes to save Winter Soldier and stop Baron Zemo. However, Scott was subsequently arrested for his actions and placed on house arrest for two years, alienating himself from Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), the original Ant-Man and his daughter, Hope Van Dyne. Flash forward to present day and Hope has become a superhero herself, operating with her father and utilizing a modified version of her mother, Janet’s (Michelle Phifer), Wasp suit equipped with wings and “stingers” that can fire blasts of electrical energy. Hank may have discovered a means of rescuing Janet from the Quantum Universe just as the latter telepathically reaches out to Scott. Hope and Hank reluctantly enlist Scott’s help in saving her, but a mysterious villain with quantum powers of her own, Ghost, wants their technology for herself. Scott and Hope will have to team up as Ant-Man and Wasp to not only save Janet, but keep Hank’s shrinking technology out of the government and organized crimes’ clutches!

We have to say this film was pretty good. The story line and plot prove that Marvel can still do some pretty awesome smaller movies after Avengers: Infinity War–which, without spoiling anything, will play a part in this film. However, the real star of the film is Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp! She not only proved herself to be a superior fighter, hero, and partner, but kept us on our toes. She could definitely go toe to toe with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow! Paul Rudd is definitely the funny man in the film as Scott/Ant-Man, and we definitely love the humor, but we would really have liked to see his character cut loose a little more.

Marvel definitely is working on how it deals with its villains. Alas, we have another villain we can sympathize with in “Ghost” (Hannah John-Kamen). Making the character female and placing her fighting skills on par with Wasp’s gave us the rivalry we live for. Also, those phasing powers were pretty amazing–Shadowcat or Phantom Girl much? Bill Foster’s (Lawrence Fishburne) appearance was also amazing. In the comics he is Goliath, with a power set similar to Giant-Man’s, is one of Marvel’s first Black superheroes.

All in all, we are definitely hoping for another Ant-Man and Wasp film IF the ramifications of another Marvel event are rectified. Were you marked safe during Infinity War?

“Justice League” actor Ray Fisher, who was offered a cameo role last June to appear as Cyborg in “The Flash” solo movie, publicly stated he did not want to be involved with the project via Twitter, hence the character of Cyborg has been written out of the screenplay and will not be recast, according to insiders with knowledge of the situation.

Fisher publicly resigned from the role last week in his continuing beef with DC Films President Walter Hamada, who is overseeing “The Flash.” The actor tweeted on Dec. 30, “Walter Hamada is the most dangerous kind of enabler. He lies, and WB PR’s failed Sept. 4th hit-piece sought to undermine the very real issues of the Justice League investigation.”

Fisher added in his tweet, “I will not participate in any production associated with him.” Of note, Hamada did not oversee the “Justice League” production and was not the head of DC Films at the time, nor was he employed during the film’s initial release.

Hamada first joined DC Films back in 2018 and lead the division to the release of its highest-grossing film to date, 2018’s “Aquaman,” which banked over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. On Tuesday, it was announced that Hamada had reupped his deal as president until 2023. Fisher called the news “reactionary” in a tweet later that day.

We hate to see Ray Fisher leave the DCEU; but as fanboys we hate to see Cyborg will not be appearing in The Flash film. As we posted in a previous article there are a number of young Black actors who should have been recast for this role, even if it was just a cameo.

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU), DC Comics collection of recent movies jumpstarted by 2013’s Superman has been plagued by lackluster plots and low fan approval for years. Even their latest film, Wonder Woman 1984, has been critically panned.

However, more controversy is brewing in the DCEU now as it being reported that Ray Fisher will no longer be portraying “Cyborg” in its shared universe of films, and his role is currently being recast.

As you may recall, Ray has been quite vocal with his distaste for the executives and directors over the superhero films at Warner Bros.; alleging racism, favortism, and non-professionalism.

There is no news yet in who they may be eyeing for Cyborg, but it will be necessary. The hero has come to prominence over the years as a mainstay of The Justice League and was set to have a standalone film in the coming years.

Superhero roles are quite coveted in Hollywood nowadays. Here is a short list of who we think would make a great candidate for Victor Stone/Cyborg:

daniel ezra

Daniel Ezra

Daniel Ezra plays “Spencer James” on The CW’s “All-American.” There he plays a gifted football player, something Victor Stone was before his accident spurred his father to save his life with cybernetics. Daniel definitely would bring some serious muscle to this hero.

da'vinchi

Da’Vinchi

Da’Vinchi is an amazing young actor with the looks and physique to play Cyborg. Like Daniel Ezra he too plays a gifted football, and on Freeform’s grown-ish he was basketball star, “Cash Mooney.” We stan for Da’Vinchi he’d be bring some rather suave and debonair qualities to Cyborg.

niles fitch

Niles Fitch

Niles Fitch’s fame hails from being the teen and young adult version of “Randal Pearson” from NBC’s hit series, This Is Us. Niles has already played a superhero of sorts in Disney’s “Second Born Royals” and definitely can do all the athletic feats it requires to be Cyborg!

Davien’s newest film, “Some Kind Of Christmas” is a “different” kind of holiday film filled with laughter, tragedy, sex appeal, and most of all family!

Some Kind Of Christmas centers on Gary (Tomathan McGinnis), the VP of a successful pet crematorium, who opts to finally go home for Christmas to introduce his family to his boyfriend. His plans go awry when his boyfriend abruptly breaks up with him, leaving him spiraling. His best friend and coworker, steps in and hires him a “date” for Christmas on a dating app called “Ken.”

Gary and the Ken (also the alias of the date, played by Davien Harlis) get off to a rocky start when the latter thinks he may just be looking for sex. Ken soon learns, however, Gary’s family is anything but traditional. His parents are traditional and conservative, his older brother is rude and seen as The Golden Child, and his younger sister, is married to an elderly man and carries around a baby doll…

Ken presented as Gary’s friend, witnessing the ups, downs, of a seemingly nice family in need of some real healing and better communication across the board. It really is “Some Kind Of Christmas.”

We have to say we really loved this film! To learn that Davien gathered everything he needed for it in three months and filmed it in six days is a true testament to his abilities as a filmmaker and resourcefulness. The movie is heartwarming with family elements, but definitely spicy with its love scene (OH MY!)

The overall message of the film is togetherness and acceptance, something we can never learn enough about. These times are trying and we need to see family settling their differences and coming together for momentous events like the holidays.

We attended the 3 night premiere of “Some Kind Of Christmas” at CineVision Atlanta where a number of Atlanta’s Black and LGBT content creators and patrons gathered in support of Davien’s latest film. Many remember his first film, Red Carpet Hashtags & Heartbreak and were happy to see what is new with him. Noted attendees include Michael “Hey Mikey” Fanning, Ebony Shinelle, Lyrik London, Brandon Karson Jordan, Alex Jante, JeTwahn of WeWereBorn, and Maurice Ravennah, CEO of U-Do TV.
