“Netflix Forever!” Is what we are currently yelling now that we know The Get Down is returning to the network on April 7th! Yep that means, more of Ezekiel, Mylene, Shaolin Fantastic, The Kipling Brothers (Ra-Ra, Boo-Boo, & Dizzee), Cadillac, Fat Annie, and the rest of this amazing cast are back! At last we get to flashback to The Bronx in the late seventies when disco music ruled the scene and hip-hop, known as “The Get Down” was a fledgling genre in the streets and alleys of the dying burough.
We manage to get our hands on a few pictures from the upcoming second part to the series; and Netflix has released a juicy trailer you must see below!
Clearly things are heating up for the kids this time around. As you recall, when we left off in the first part of the series, Mylene had just scored her first hit single, becoming an overnight sensation, meanwhile Ezekiel was living the best of both worlds as he began working for the city and he and the rest of the Fantastic Four +1 won their first major rap battle. Still, success is never an easy thing to ascertain and it looks like every single character is going to have to fight to keep their share and climb higher. Especially, Shao who seems to be fighting for his very soul!
The comic community is officially fanboying/fangirling over the latest superhero movie news! Apparently, “Deadpool 2” has cast actress, Zazie Beetz, as the mercenary/mutant superhero, “Domino!”
As you may already know, Zazie is one of the break out stars of Donald Glover’s critically acclaimed FX series, Atlanta, where she plays Earn’s love interest/daughter’s mother, “Van.” Check out the picture “Deadpool’s” leading man, Ryan Reynolds tweeted below!
Donald Glover (aka “Childish Gambino), may very well be having the best year ever!
Not only will he be a young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo Star Wars movie, his hit series Atlanta won a number of Golden Globes, and now he has been cast in the role of a lifetime in Disney’s The Lion King remake! It has been reported that the rapper/singer turned actor will voice the film’s protagonist, Simba!
As you recall, Disney has been remaking its animated films into live action movies; Maleficent, Cinderella, Pete’s Dragon, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and The Beast have already been released or are soon to debut. Live actions films based on Aladdin’s Genie, and The Little Mermaid are already in the works. The Lion King, however, stands out as the “creme de la creme” of animated films, holding the title of the highest grossing animated film of all time. Its live action remake may very well prove to be the shining jewel in Disney’s new approach to these classic films.
HOTT 923’s Fresh Face Radio never fails to deliver the fun and the laughs–they do not pull any punches either!
Airing Tuesdays from 8-10 PM EST; Radio hosts, SoDebnair, Lady Kooture the Voice of All Media Diva, and our very own Hey Mikey dish out tea (piping hot), a little shade, lots of pettiness, but most of all fun!
Last night Fresh Face Radio had on Chris Kelsey, Daphne Pittman-Hayes, and Tyler Does, three cast members of the new indie film, Dirty South House Arrest. Centered on a young man named, Drake (Curtis Wyatt III), who is stuck at home and tries to come up with a way to get his crush, Tamika (LaTavia Roberson) to come over by throwing a house party. His friends, Flipside (Tyler Does) and Travis (Navv Greene), join him in his mission to make it an unforgettable event! However, Drake soon learns his mother, Vanessa (Jessica Fontaine), had to use their mortgage money to pay for his lawyer. Now it is up to him to help his mother all while pulling off a life changing party!
The film definitely seems interesting and we cannot wait to see it for ourselves. If you are an eighties baby then you know house parties can be epic! It is definitely time we have a good house party-based movie. After all, the ones after Kid-N-Play were all a flop! (Sorry, NOT Sorry!) We definitely want to see if LaTavia can act too. This may be her first big screen role, as you recall besides music she has only really done R&B Divas Atlanta.
Dirty South Arrest will be screening this weekend and you can catch a review of it here on HeyMikeyATL. In the meanwhile, catch their interview with the cast, in its entirety, below! Happy listening! Tell us what you think of the show below in our comments section!
Fox is really kicking some ass with its latest Fall lineup. It seems like just yesterday the network was a joke when it came to new series, let alone hit ones!
Well thanks, to a little Lee Daniels magic a new series, Star, is about to take stage!
Star has been highly anticipated for nearly a year now, with rumors that begin to buzz when Daniels, the creator of Empire, announced he was creating a new series for Fox. Instantly celebrities like Queen Latifah, Amiya Scott, and Benjamin Bratt were linked to the project.
Donald Glover is the man! Yep the rapper, actor, singer, and producer is truly taking off this year. We LOVE him in FX’s hit series, Atlanta, but now he is really reaching for the stars as it has been announced he has been cast in the highly anticipated Star Wars Han Solo film! Lucasfilm announced earlier this week he will playing the role of Lando Calrissian in the still untitled film.
via Star Wars:
He’ll join Alden Ehrenreich — previously cast as Han Solo — in bringing two iconic Star Wars characters back to the big screen, but at a time in their lives previously unexplored.
This new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Glover is best known for creating and starring in the critically acclaimed FX series Atlanta (which had the highest premiere numbers for any basic cable comedy show since 2013), as well as for starring in four seasons of the showCommunity, and for his Grammy-nominated album Because the Internet, performed under the name Childish Gambino. In addition, Glover appeared in the Academy Award-nominated The Martian, and will be seen in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.
We are so happy to see more people of color joining the Star Wars universe. Hopefully he won’t be met with the same hate as John Boyega, who played “Finn” in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Congrats again Donald! Check back here for more updates guys!
