“Tale As Old As Time…” Disney’s “Beauty & The Beast” (@beourguest) Is EPIC!

Disney has truly found itself a new niche with these amazing live action films over the last few years.

Maleficent definitely led the way, but the company’s current live action feature, Beauty and The Beast takes the cake!

This film is nothing short of epic and does an amazing job of adapting the original animated film to a live action format!

The film is based on Belle (Emma Watson), a “funny girl,” and inventor who shares her love for art, learning, and invention with her doting father, Maurice. Belle tires of her “provincial life” in her little village where everything is the same day to day. She longs for adventure and something more than a regular life. Beautiful and intelligent, her attributes earn her the affections of the arrogant and narcissistic village “hero,” Gaston (Luke Evans). However, Belle soon gets more than what she bargained for out of life when she finds her father has been imprisoned by The Beast (Dan Stevens) and selflessly takes his place. Whereas Belle sees herself as his prisoner, she is single-handedly the last best hope The Beast and his servants have to regain their humanity.

Major Movie Alert: Matthew McConaughey (@McConaughey) is on Fire in “Free State of Jones!” (@FreeState)

Just about any movie starring Matthew McConaughey is going to be amazing. Needless to say, his latest film, Free State of Jones holds up to argument. Matt is back and this time he is in a period piece–The Civil War! The film is inspired by the life of Newton Knight, a poor farmer who led an armed rebellion, The Knight Company, against the Confederate Army in Jones County, Mississippi.

Naturally, McConaughey is Newton, who in the film, goes rogue after losing his only son in a battle. He loses heart, feeling he and other poor farmers are only fighting to keep plantation owners rich. He leads an armed rebellion against the Confederacy at the height of The Civil War. Can you say battle royale? Check out the amazing trailer below!

11/15/2014- “Noni’s Blues”

Hey Mikey,

You’ll be happy to know I went and saw “Beyond The Lights!” It was as awesome as you said it would be. I related to Noni a lot…currently my family is trying to push me into a business career to help them run their businesses. I want to act but i know they won’t support me. They don’t know it but the pressure they’ve put on me has made me depressed, stressed, and at times I have contemplated just giving in. What should I do? I don’t want to disappoint them, but I also don’t want to live a life I won’t be happy with?

***Gasping, you are not a chicken in a crock pot, therefore your family should not be applying any pressure on you! You only get one life to live and it has to be on your own terms. As difficult as it may be, you must stand your ground and pursue your dream wholeheartedly. Just remember nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Your family will either learn to support you, or learn to get out of your way. The life of an actress may not be what they wished for you, but it is the life you will have, and you must live it bravely!

“Beyond The Lights”–There’s A Soundtrack!

“Beyond The Lights” is destined to go down as one of the best films in 2014. It is by far the best romantic film I have ever seen and my new personal favorite film. Thanks to advanced screenings and premieres I have managed to see Gina Prince-Bythewood’s latest peice of art three times. Each time is more thrilling than the last, and I find myself falling deeper and deeper in love with Gugu Mbatha-Raw and “Noni Jean.” However, of the many tantalizing elements of the film, the original music found in it, will surely captivate your heart. “Beyond The Lights'” soundtrack debuted earlier this week and it is phenomenal!

The soundtrack was produced by The Dream with a few songs on the album actually being sung by Gugu. Each song directly correlates to a moment in the film painting a truly complex, yet beautiful tale of the love affair between Noni and Kaz (Nate Parker). The album is comprised of thirteen amazing songs, but three will truly resonate with audiences.

Contest Time! Enter For A Chance to win Passes to see “Beyond The Lights” on November 12th!

Gina Prince-Bythewood, the director of “Love & Basketball” is back and with a guaranteed hit movie for audiences everywhere. Relativity Media has teamed up with Kontrol Magazine to allow two lucky people the chance of a lifetime–two tickets to November 12th’s advanced screening of “Beyond The Lights” at Regal Cinema Perimeter Point (1155 Mt Vernon Hwy, Atlanta, GA 30338)! Readers can go to http://www.relativityscreenings.com/main/sweepstakes/KontrolMagBTL .

“Beyond The Lights” is the thrilling  story of Noni Jean, the music world’s latest superstar. But not all is what it seems, and the pressures of fame leave her dangling from  the edge–literally– until she meets Kaz Nicol, a young cop with dreams of becoming a politician, who’s been assigned to her detail. The two are almost instantly drawn to one another. Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. Interestingly, it is ultimately Kaz’s love and devotion to her that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was always meant to be.

“Love & Basketball’s” Gina Prince-Bythewood Delivers Black Love & Fame in “Beyond The Lights!”

Glitz, glamour, and fame can be a drug worse than any chemical substance or emotional attachment. Some people handle it well, only making it a minor aspect of their lives. Others, however, suffocate in it.  The pressure might as well be like a millstone around their necks! Now take this feeling and enter Noni Jean’s (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) world. Noni is a sensational singer and rising star on the fast track to global success. She has three platinum singles and is expected to break records. She even has a highly anticipated album soon to drop. However, all that pales in comparison to the emptiness she feels inside and her overbearing mother/manager (Minnie Driver). After winning her first Billboard Music Award, what should be a celebratory event becomes a distressing one when she tries to commit suicide by jumping from a balcony. Luckily she is saved by a cop working security for her, Kaz Nicol (Nate Parker). As she dangles from the balcony he says three of the sweetest and simplest words ever, “I see you…” Before she can even recover from the event she is forced to lie to the media about what has happened and enlists Kaz’s aide. He reluctantly complies and then distances himself from her, finding the limelight too bright. However, there is a real bond between the two of them and he finds himself drawn back to her. They instantly become what each other need in life. He becomes her hero, and she becomes an outlet to his straight laced, pre-planned life. Nevertheless, the couple have to contend with their respective demons and the media at large. Through it all Noni and Kaz learn “Beyond The Light” and the swirling drama that follows you have to be true to yourself. After all the truth is the only solid ground to stand on.
