Signal 23 TV is definitely full of surprises! No we are not talking about the departure of a Web Star or a new series.

We are, however, talking about Kash Dinero covering Tevin Campbell’s song, “Tell Me What You Want Me To Do” in Episode 7 of About Him Season 2: The Revolution!

Signal 23 TV posted an exclusive snippet of the song via their Instagram and we have to say we are smitten. Check it out below:

You can see the full video in Episode 7 of About Him: The Revolution. Kash’s cover of such a classic song comes as a surprise not because of the song choice, but because none of us knew he could sing. We are very familiar with the singer’s background (and we are still swooning) and are thrilled he can add this to his “body of work”–we mean repertoire! Dinero is a great singer and we hope to hear more music from him, even some original tracks. This song choice however is just perfect. Dustin (Gary Lavard) and Armani (Chris June) are definitely the super couple of web series in general right now and their love story has the potential to be as deep or legendary as any two star-crossed lovers lining the walls of fictional history.

What do you guys think of Kash’s song. We definitely would not mind a soundtrack of original music from this season of About Him (HINT, HINT) and are really loving how this season is progressing. The story lines, cast, and more importantly the activism of this series is nothing short of impressive. Kash Dinero drop us a line for an interview, we are definitely ready to get close and personal!

Kontrol Exclusive (@kontrolmag): Discover The Life Behind The Music of Normani Kordei (@NormaniKordei)!

normani kordei in kontrol magazine's women in music issue

Written By: Tanisha D. Davis

Normani Kordei is a singer originally from Atlanta, Georgia who is a member of the girl group, Fifth Harmony.

Her sweet and humble personality adds to why she has remained such a successful performer in recent years. Kordei has been singing and dancing since the age of four and although she has had an early start in the field of music, she doesn’t allow that to steal away from her ability to remain humble in the midst of all the excitement and success. Kontrol truly enjoyed discovering more about the life of the young singer and was excited to find out that she will be appearing on the hit TV series, ‘Dancing With the Stars.’

normani kordei in kontrol magazine's women in music issueDancing with the Stars has been an incredible experience. Honestly I feel like I have grown in the last three weeks. I really have the best partner and he has been really encouraging me, and allowing me to see the beauty in me and what I have to offer. Growing up, I didn’t really believe in myself the most, especially since I started out at such a young age. Having people judge you in every little thing you do, even as a teenager and experiencing life for itself can be tough. He’s helping me to realize that it’s okay to be vulnerable, like don’t keep it all to yourself, so I really thank him for that, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of the season with him. The cast has really become a family and learning all of the dances and genres has really been cool.”

Kontrol Exclusive (@kontrolmag): From The Street to The Throne—It’s Dreezy’s (@dreezydreezy) World!

dreezy in kontrol magazine's women in music issue

The rise and reign of rap is perhaps the biggest and most inspiring aspect of modern music. From simple “Get Downs” in basements and dance offs on street corners, rap has become the most popular genre on the face of the planet! The sheer number of rap stars the genre has generated is immense, forever evolving, and revolving. The rap game is fierce and “competitive” just does not sum up the nature of the business when it comes to being a star or wannabe. When you add being a woman on top of that the stakes become astronomical.

Enter 2017 and the rap world of Dreezy!

Strong, independent, and determined Dreezy is the future of female rap in an industry determined to overlook, undermine, and underestimate her every step of the way.

dreezy in kontrol magazine's women in music issue

It seems like forever ago when we first bobbed our heads to Dreezy’s hit single, Body, and now the stars are within her reach. In a candid conversation with Kontrol Magazine she goes on to discuss her goals for 2017, hopes, dreams, and what it means to be a female rapper. “It [2017] has started off great…I messed up with my resolution, it was to stop smoking, but I did slow down, shout out to that [she laughs]. I have been working out. The year came in and I said I wanted to work out and have been doing that like every day and I’m seeing the results from that. I said I’m just gonna take care of my hair and hygiene and focus more on me and my music…” Interestingly she described 2016, on a scale of one to ten as a four or five! “Last year was so bittersweet for me. I dropped my first album and that was good. I had like four singles on the radio and that was good, but I lost my best friend last year and that was one of the worst times. So yeah it was real bittersweet, a lot of ups and downs—real weird. [In 2017] I feel rejuvenated, I lost my friend at the beginning of last year so we had our plans and resolutions and it was New Years and we were celebrating. It all happened the day after and I feel like I got set back. This year I feel like it’s my second shot to make everything good I just had to recoup. No excuses.”

The release of “Strength of a Woman” comes during the buildup to the Claws premiere, taking place this Sunday, June 11, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) across TNT platforms. The premiere will be followed by an encore presentation on Twitter.

“The inspiration for ‘Strength of a Woman’ came from my life. It came from some very heavy trials and hardships through my life that I had to come through,” said Mary J. Blige. “There are a lot of similar themes in the show Claws. They’re in some heavy, sticky, nasty situations but that is what survival is about.”

With its story focusing on five manicurists working at a Central Florida nail salon, Claws celebrates empowered women as they navigate the challenges of their professional and daily lives. Blige integrated members of the cast into her “Strength of a Woman” music video in order to show off an array of proud, hard-working women – a common thread woven throughout the R&B songstress’ album and resonating at the heart of its title song. “Strength of a Woman” is a reflection of Blige’s journey to overcoming emotional turmoil and, like Claws, honors women by exploring themes of self-worth and empowerment.

#Fashion Crush – Dev Hynes (@devhynes)

Dev Hynes

Every now and then someone like Dev Hynes comes along and makes you look at fashion from a different perspective.

Dev Hynes

Having been dubbed “New York’s last bohemian” by the New York Times, the London born  musician marches to the beat of his own drum with his fashion as well as with his extensive career.  Since starting his career in 2005 with the band Test Icicles, Hynes has changed aliases many times. In 2007, under the name of Lightspeed Champion, Dev Hynes utilized such friends as Florence and the Machine as his touring band. After officially retiring Lightspeed Champion in 2010, Hynes moved on to Blood Orange whose R&B sound differed from the indie rock sound of Lightspeed Champion. Blood Orange saw much success having had songs on the MTV shows Skin as well as performing on the last episode of MTV’s It’s on with Alexa Chung.

Hynes’ accomplishments exceeded far beyond being frontman for Blood Orange. His writing and producing credit has also given him great success. He was even featured on english electronica band The Chemical Brothers album We Are The Night which won them a Grammy in 2008.

Dev Hynes in the H&M holiday 2016 campaign

The past year has seen the fashion world stand up and take notice of Dev Hynes’ keen fashion influence. First was his appearance in H&M’s 2016 holiday campaign where he posed alongside fashion’s new “It’ girl Adwoa Aboah and Vine star Gabriel-Kane, son of actor Daniel Day Lewis. Recently, Hynes sat front row at the Gucci resort 2018 fashion show where he was chosen to take over Gucci’s Instagram and live stream the show. With a list of accomplishments that seems to constantly grow longer it shouldn’t be hard to believe that we’ve only scratched the surface of how remarkable Dev Hynes truly is.
