Binge Watch Worthy: Netflix’s (@netflix) “Iron Fist,” “The Get Down,” & “Chewing Gum!”

We love ourselves some Netflix! It is hard to believe it started off as a way to stream movies from anywhere. Now, however, it has become a full fledged network with its own original series.

Over the last month we have definitely been binge watching three of its original series; Marvel’s Iron Fist, The Get Downand Chewing Gum!

Each of these series were so riveting and good that we had to tell you why you should be sacrificing five to thirteen hour stints of time catching up on them!

Marvel’s Iron Fist

iron fist

Netflix has really found a niche with its Marvel series based on lesser known heroes from Marvel Comics wide repertoire. We loved Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, and now we are just as stoked for Iron Fist. This latest series entails the origins of martial arts master, Danny Rand, who can use his chi energy to harden his fist with glowing energy that make his fists virtually indestructible. With these fists he can shatter substances as hard as steel and stone. Played by actor, Finn Jones, the series shows Danny’s return to New York City after being declared dead years ago. He soon learns however, his family’s company is being ran by his former childhood friends, who have become corporate sharks. Additionally, the threat of a terrorist ninja clan, The Hand, grows when they began selling drugs under his company’s name. Danny must overcome his own demons and insecurities to master his role as the “Iron Fist” and save the city in the process.

Marvel definitely made an awesome attempt at adapting Iron Fist to Netflix. However, it does have a few kinks. The source material is dated and plays off white savior stereotypes. A happy compromise would have been to make him Asian. Many fans feel Lewis Tan would have been a better choice to lead the series. We have to agree. Finn Jones may be Game of Thrones cool, but he was off his mark here. Hopefully he can make it up in The Defenders which will debut later this year!

Musiq Soulchild is a Hip-Hop soul artist that was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He built a reputation for being musically gifted, beat boxing for MC’s, free styling on the open mic circuit or just performing acappella for strangers on the streets.

Deeply inspired by the R&B/Soul sound of the 70’s he uses the name “Soulchild” as a way to show respect and admiration to his biggest musical influences such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and many others. In April 2016 he released his 7th studio album entitled “Life On Earth” leading with the new hit single “I Do”. The album peaked at #2 on Billboard R&B album charts and # 3 on the Top Hip-Hop R&B album charts. He has received awards from Billboard, BET, ASCAP, BMI, and Soul Train.  (

“Love, there’s so many things I’ve got to tell you, but I’m afraid I don’t know how, cause there’s a possibility that you’ll look at me differently, Love”….Okay sorry I went back to a moment in time when R&B music was still sensual. His music tends to do that to you, and many of us have probably rehearsed the lyrics to his songs such as this one over the years. Now we can get ready to check out some new music from the R&B Artist!

#ThrowbackThursday- Crime Mob (@CrimeMobAtl)!

crime mob

Much has changed in Atlanta’s rap scene since Crime Mob released their breakout single, “Knuck If You Buck” back in 2004. Now a decade after the release of their last album, the pioneering crunk group has reunited and announced  new plans for 2017!

“Knuck If You Buck,” was the biggest song of their career and arguably the best song during that time frame. I think we all remember bouncing around the room or club to the beat. Since then, the group hasn’t released a single that can be considered an equivalent follow-up. During a recent concert over the weekend, sponsored by Atlanta’s radio show, the group did an interview with Big Tigger where they spoke about a brand new album that is coming this year.

[VIDEO] 99 Jamz, Supa Cindy (@SUPACINDY), Releases LGBTQ Cypher

99 JAMZ Radio Personality Supa Cindy released a new music video showcasing Miami’s finest rappers for an LGBTQ edition of her Miami Cypher series titled “We Coming.” The cypher music video showcases rappers: Bobby Lytes, Jazzy (Warehouse Music Group), Trap God, and Chyna J, who drop bars over a bass-heavy track produced by Blasian Beats.

“I connected with my good friend Bobby Lytes to help round up this explosive group of rappers lighting up the LGBTQ scene,” said Supa Cindy.

As a host on Miami’s WEDR-FM 99 Jamz, Supa Cindy has become one of the most recognizable voices on radio in the 305. She stays connected to the hip hop world by having friends like Teflon Don rapper, Rick Ross, who made a song about her titled “Supa Cindy” and featured her voice on a track that he released “Buy Back the Block” featuring Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz. Supa Cindy also co-hosts the Famous and Uncensored podcast with Trick Daddy. So who better to use their platform to expose raw talent to the streets that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Though some feel that Hip Hop is still homophobic, with rappers like Frank Ocean, Young M.A. and SIYA, their presence creates a lane for other aspiring LGBT artist to have a shot in the game. Supa Cindy hopes to bring attention to the underground rap scene in Miami in an effort to spark a 305 Hip Hop renaissance.

“I want to give talented and aspiring artists within the LGBTQ community the same opportunity I’ve given to other talented artists,” says Supa Cindy about her motivation behind the cypher.

The digital track of the cypher will be released by EMPIRE at a later date. To stay updated on all things Supa Cindy and her cyphers, subscribe to her YouTube channel. In the meantime, check out the Miami Cypher: We Coming – LGBTQ Edition below and let us know what you think! Do you think these rappers have what it takes to go from underground to mainstream?

[AUDIO] “Another One”–Remy Ma (@RealRemyMa) Drops ANOTHER Nicki Minaj (@NickiMinaj) Diss Track!

remy ma another one diss track

Remy Ma is making it very clear she is NOT here for Nicki Minaj. As you recall the two female rappers are currently beefing with Remy recently releasing a diss track, shETHER, that not only came for Nicki’s skills, status as a rapper, but even went in on her brother who allegdly raped a teenage girl! Yes, it got that messy! Most people, including a few fans agree Remy pretty much destroyed Nicki, but what has shocked us all is that the raptress has released yet ANOTHER diss track before Nicki could even make a comeback!

remy ma and nicki minaj

Remy’s new diss track aptly entitled Another One, dropped today and it is a beast! Check it out below!

Yikes! Remy Ma is making it very clear she “will not lose,” nor is she someone to come for! This title and the cover art for it pretty much confirm how we all feel. Still, where is Nicki?! For her to be “The Queen of Rap” she has been eerily silent and in the world of rap battles and celebrity beefs that is just not cool. When you have people like her ex, Safaree Samuels saying she can’t come back we need her to prove them wrong and rise to the occasion.

What do you guys think of Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj’s beef, and more importantly Another One? Is it just as venomous as shEther? We definitely want to hear your thoughts! It has been awhile since we enjoyed a good rap battle, especially with two beloved female rappers. Happy listening!
