The release of “Strength of a Woman” comes during the buildup to the Claws premiere, taking place this Sunday, June 11, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) across TNT platforms. The premiere will be followed by an encore presentation on Twitter.

“The inspiration for ‘Strength of a Woman’ came from my life. It came from some very heavy trials and hardships through my life that I had to come through,” said Mary J. Blige. “There are a lot of similar themes in the show Claws. They’re in some heavy, sticky, nasty situations but that is what survival is about.”

With its story focusing on five manicurists working at a Central Florida nail salon, Claws celebrates empowered women as they navigate the challenges of their professional and daily lives. Blige integrated members of the cast into her “Strength of a Woman” music video in order to show off an array of proud, hard-working women – a common thread woven throughout the R&B songstress’ album and resonating at the heart of its title song. “Strength of a Woman” is a reflection of Blige’s journey to overcoming emotional turmoil and, like Claws, honors women by exploring themes of self-worth and empowerment.

In Case You Missed It! ‘Sister, Sister’ Reboot Coming To A Screen Near You!

sister sister reboot

I have said it before and I will say it again…2017 is turning out to be the year of the “remake” and the “reboot”. Summertime has barely rolled in and there have already been several announcements of our beloved television shows and classic movies getting makeovers.

The recent show to join the “reboot” era is “Sister, Sister” which starred celebrity twins Tia and Tamera Mowry.

Recently, Tia Mowry sat down with Nylon and confirmed that the beloved 90s sitcom will be back in our living rooms.

“We’re looking, right now, for a producer and a writer, someone who can kind of be a leader of the pack in regards to running the show,” she says. “I thought people would kind of be jumping on it, but it’s a lot harder than my sister and I thought it would be. Everything in my career has always been a challenge.”

The Reboot Era

Mowry lists Roseanne, Twin Peaks, and Will and Grace, as just a handful of the shows getting the revival treatment. The demand is there, so is the interest amongst the cast; they’re just looking for the proper support. “It’s not dead in any kind of way,” she says. “We’re moving forward, we’re taking those strides. They’re slow strides, but we’re pushing as hard as we can to make people happy and make our fans happy.”

When that happens, we hope that some of the celebrity guests from the ’90s make it a point to stop by again. Mowry says some of her favorite memories from the show were her times on set with late actress Brittany Murphy, Kobe Bryant before he was Kobe Bryant, Gabrielle Union, Christina Milian, and Taraji P. Henson.”

So, what are your thoughts? Are you feeling all these remakes and reboots? Will you be watching the new “Sister, Sister”? What remake or reboot are you most excited to see? Let me know in the comments.

[VIDEOS] OWN (@OWNTV) Releases New Trailers for Season 2 of “Queen Sugar! (@QueenSugarOWN)”

Last Fall we were blown away with OWN’s original series. The fledgling cable network scored some major hits with its returning series The Haves & The Have Nots and If Loving You Is Wrong, and new series, Greenleaf and Queen Sugar.

Greenleaf is currently on hiatus with the second half of its second season set to debut in August, but Queen Sugar is returning this June!

queen sugar bordelon siblings

As you may recall from the first season finale, Charlie is moving forward with opening Louisiana’s first Black-owned mill so she and her family can grind their sugar cane without interference all while dealing with her divorce and feeling for Remy. Her son, Micah continues to deal with the fallout from his parents’ divorce, meanwhile Hollywood takes a job far away for months needing time away from Aunt Vi. Elsewhere, Nova reels from the repercussions of her public and fledgling relationship with her White cop boyfriend, and Ralph-Angel discovered a later will left for him that gives him sole ownership of their land.

Check out the trailers OWN has released for Season 2 below:

This new season looks intense! We definitely see the Bordelons are coming up in the world. Still, the strides they have made may be threatened by their own family drama and infighting. We can definitely see a storm brewing with this will. Charlie may be making some moves, but Ralph-Angel can stop her cold if he takes things to court. Nova seems to be playing peacemaker between her two younger siblings, but we are sure she has her fair share of drama too. Especially when we see Aunt Vi having to remind them they are family.

queen sugar season 2 premiere date

Either way we cannot wait for Season 2 to premiere on June 20th and 21st as a two night event! Queen Sugar is back and we could not be happier!  Happy viewing!

[TRAILER] Shonda Rhimes’ (@shondarhimes) New Series, “Still Star-Crossed” Debuts…and Tanks…

When one thinks of writer Shonda Rhimes, black excellence, amazing story lines, and creative genius all comes to mind.

Being the mind behind such successful series such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Scandal” grants you that level of prestige and power. Like any new series of Shonda’s, fans and newbies alike expect a certain level of pizzazz and her last Shondaland program may’ve missed the mark. The show was met with mixed reviews; some fans absolutely loved it while others felt it fell short of greatness. And according to the Nielsen ratings, they’re not wrong.

STILL STAR-CROSSED – ABC’s “Still Star-Crossed” stars Wade Briggs as Benvolio, Lashana Lynch as Rosaline and Sterling Sulieman as Prince Escalus. (ABC/Ed Herrera)

The latest show to be added to Shonda’s roster is “Still Star-Crossed”, an American period drama based on the book with the same name by Melinda Taub. Still Star-Crossed takes a closer look at those closest to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. At their wedding, Juliet’s cousin Rosaline Capulet and Romeo’s cousin Benvolio Montague are present. They don’t approve of the marriage, but they know there’s nothing they can do to stop them.

According to Nielsen data, the drama drew in a mere 0.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers, airing at 10 p.m. The struggling ratings may have been caused by it being debuted on Memorial Day.

Still Star-Crossed is considered a Summer show which may or may not be another reason viewers just weren’t feeling it. It’s a period drama; if that’s simply not your taste then just say that but I don’t think people should make excuses about why they just couldn’t get into the show. Check out the show trailer below and let us know if you’d be down to add this to your Summer Watch List or not!

The Return of “Silverstone?” Rumored Disney Channel (@DisneyChannel) Reboot in The Works?

Disney Channel seems to finally realize what other networks have–reboots are in! Although this realization seems to have come too late to save Girls Meet World, it has not stopped That’s So Raven from getting a reboot with Raven’s House.

Interestingly a new rumored reboot seems to be in the works as the rumor mill is churning, alleging a reboot of The Famous Jett Jackson called Silverstone is in the works!

Lee Thompson Young

As many of you may recall, The Famous Jett Jackson, starred the late actor Lee Thompson Young, as “Jett Jackson,” a teen actor who struggled to balance his role as a famous TV character/action hero, “Silverstone,” and his own personal life. The series ran for three seasons and was met with rave reviews, before ending with a Disney Channel Original Movie. The reboot allegedly will not focus on Jett’s personal life with his friends and family, but solely focus on Silverstone’s exploits as he saves the world from all types of super spies, villains, and terrorists. There have been no rumors on who will be cast as Silverstone, or if Hawk or Artemus’s characters will appear this time around.

No Comeback for “The Get Down! (@TheGetDown)” Creator, Baz Luhrmann (@bazluhrmann) Speaks On Cancellation!

the get down key art poster

Cancellation rumors around Netflix’s hit series The Get Down are always swarming, but it has been confirmed the series will NOT be returning for a second season.

Yep this means no more Shaolin Fantastic or the epic love story that could have been Ezekiel Figuro and Mylene Cruz.  The series’ cancellation is allegedly due to its high cost–estimated to be $120 million dollars–it’s low audience number (it’s only a fifth of the viewership Orange is The New Black garners), and the show’s creator, Baz Luhrmann could not commit to the project because he is too busy.
