“It is with enormous sadness that the Gregory family confirms that their father, comedic legend and civil rights activist Mr. Dick Gregory departed this earth tonight in Washington, D.C.,” his son, Christian Gregory said via a statement from his father’s rep. “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love and respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

“He was one of the sweetest, smartest, most loving people one could ever know,” his publicist of 50 years, Steve Jaffe, tells THR. “I just hope that God is ready for some outrageously funny times.” A full statement and details of Gregory’s funeral will be released Sunday, Jaffe said.

According to an Aug. 17 statement written by his son, Gregory was recently hospitalized.

Dick Gregory dead

Dick Gregory was a pioneer in the comedic realm, becoming the first Black comedian to perform regularly in front of White audiences. His act consisted of social satires on racism and societal ills that hit all too close to home.

“When I started, a black comic couldn’t work a white nightclub. You could sing, you could dance, but you couldn’t stand flat-footed and talk — then the system would know how brilliant black folks was,” Gregory recalled in a 2016 interview.

Dick used his platform and reach to not only make audiences laugh, but fight for the civil rights of African-Americans. His autobiography entitled Nigger, details the pain, heartache, and triumph he and his wife endured during these trying times. It truly goes without saying that Mr. Gregory was a legend among legends right up there with the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, and Bayard Rusting. We love and already miss you Mr. Gregory and the fight for equality and justice will carry on–FOREVER!

FINALLY! Facebook & Twitter Locks Trump’s Account After He Tweets & Reposts Videos Praising Protesters!

America continues to reel as The White House was stormed earlier today by White Nationalists & pro-Trump supporters. Meanwhile Donald Trump said little to dissuade their acts as they broke into The Capitol; climbing over barricades, breaking into windows, and even scaling walls–even breaching areas where Congress convenes. A woman was also killed by gunshot!

Meanwhile Trump has been locked out of his Twitter account for reposting  videos praising the protesters and their acts of violence and destruction for twelve hours. This signals his account may ultimately face suspension.

Facebook (FB) and Twitter (TWTR) took the extraordinary step on Wednesday of locking President Donald Trump’s account on their platforms after his supporters stormed the Capitol building to protest the election.

Twitter said it has locked President Donald Trump’s account for 12 hours, and warned for the first time that it may suspend him permanently.
The temporary lock reflects Trump’s violation of the Twitter rules, the company said.
“We have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity Policy,” Twitter said. “This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.”
Twitter added that “future violations… will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”
Facebook also blocked Trump from posting on its platform for 24 hours, the company said, after it removed a video he posted to his supporters who participated in the riot.

“We’ve assessed two policy violations against President Trump’s Page which will result in a 24-hour feature block, meaning he will lose the ability to post on the platform during that time,” Facebook said in a tweet.
Facebook spokesman Andy Stone didn’t immediately respond to questions about whether Trump could face a permanent suspension if he continues to violate Facebook policies.
The announcement marks a major escalation by both social media companies against Trump’s account and responds to calls by civil rights groups for Trump to be banned from the platforms.
We applaud Twitter and Facebook for taking some steps against Trump and his hateful acts, but the answer is to permanently bar him from all social media platforms altogether. His “Twitter fingers” are just too much and too dangerous.

Yesterday we reported that Warner Bros. was looking to recast the role of the superhero, Cyborg, originally played by Ray Fisher after a very strenuous and controversial separation.

It is now being reported that Warner Bros. has now opted to write Cyborg out completely, removing him from the upcoming “Flash” movie starring Ezra Miller.

“Justice League” actor Ray Fisher, who was offered a cameo role last June to appear as Cyborg in “The Flash” solo movie, publicly stated he did not want to be involved with the project via Twitter, hence the character of Cyborg has been written out of the screenplay and will not be recast, according to insiders with knowledge of the situation.

Fisher publicly resigned from the role last week in his continuing beef with DC Films President Walter Hamada, who is overseeing “The Flash.” The actor tweeted on Dec. 30, “Walter Hamada is the most dangerous kind of enabler. He lies, and WB PR’s failed Sept. 4th hit-piece sought to undermine the very real issues of the Justice League investigation.”

Fisher added in his tweet, “I will not participate in any production associated with him.” Of note, Hamada did not oversee the “Justice League” production and was not the head of DC Films at the time, nor was he employed during the film’s initial release.

Hamada first joined DC Films back in 2018 and lead the division to the release of its highest-grossing film to date, 2018’s “Aquaman,” which banked over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. On Tuesday, it was announced that Hamada had reupped his deal as president until 2023. Fisher called the news “reactionary” in a tweet later that day.

We hate to see Ray Fisher leave the DCEU; but as fanboys we hate to see Cyborg will not be appearing in The Flash film. As we posted in a previous article there are a number of young Black actors who should have been recast for this role, even if it was just a cameo.

WB Reportedly Recasting “Cyborg” for Future DCEU Movies!

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU), DC Comics collection of recent movies jumpstarted by 2013’s Superman has been plagued by lackluster plots and low fan approval for years. Even their latest film, Wonder Woman 1984, has been critically panned.

However, more controversy is brewing in the DCEU now as it being reported that Ray Fisher will no longer be portraying “Cyborg” in its shared universe of films, and his role is currently being recast.

As you may recall, Ray has been quite vocal with his distaste for the executives and directors over the superhero films at Warner Bros.; alleging racism, favortism, and non-professionalism.

There is no news yet in who they may be eyeing for Cyborg, but it will be necessary. The hero has come to prominence over the years as a mainstay of The Justice League and was set to have a standalone film in the coming years.

Superhero roles are quite coveted in Hollywood nowadays. Here is a short list of who we think would make a great candidate for Victor Stone/Cyborg:

daniel ezra

Daniel Ezra

Daniel Ezra plays “Spencer James” on The CW’s “All-American.” There he plays a gifted football player, something Victor Stone was before his accident spurred his father to save his life with cybernetics. Daniel definitely would bring some serious muscle to this hero.

da'vinchi

Da’Vinchi

Da’Vinchi is an amazing young actor with the looks and physique to play Cyborg. Like Daniel Ezra he too plays a gifted football, and on Freeform’s grown-ish he was basketball star, “Cash Mooney.” We stan for Da’Vinchi he’d be bring some rather suave and debonair qualities to Cyborg.

niles fitch

Niles Fitch

Niles Fitch’s fame hails from being the teen and young adult version of “Randal Pearson” from NBC’s hit series, This Is Us. Niles has already played a superhero of sorts in Disney’s “Second Born Royals” and definitely can do all the athletic feats it requires to be Cyborg!
